Veronica German
Veronica Kathleen German, Baroness German (''née'' Hopkins; born 12 February 1957) is a Welsh Liberal Democrats, Welsh Liberal Democrat politician who was a Member of the Welsh Assembly (AM) for the South Wales East (National Assembly for Wales constituency), South Wales East region between 2010 and 2011. Background German has lived in the Newport, Wales, Newport and Cwmbran area for nearly 30 years. She graduated at Aston University where she studied Chemical Engineering, as well as achieving a Masters in Biochemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham. While a third year student as part of her "sandwich degree" course, she was assigned to the pilot plant at Cadburys Bournville when they were developing the production of bubbles into the Cadbury Wispa chocolate bar where she "served" under her head of Dept. South Wales East (National Assembly For Wales Electoral Region)
South Wales East () is an electoral region of the Senedd, consisting of eight constituencies. The region elects 12 members, eight directly elected constituency members and four additional members. The electoral region was first used in 1999, when the National Assembly for Wales was created. Each constituency elects one Member of the Senedd by the first past the post electoral system, and the region as a whole elects four additional or top-up Members of the Senedd, to create a degree of proportional representation. The additional member seats are allocated from closed lists by the D'Hondt method, with constituency results being taken into account in the allocation. Severn Bridge
The Severn Bridge ( cy, Pont Hafren) is a motorway suspension bridge that spans the River Severn between South Gloucestershire in England and Monmouthshire in South East Wales. It is the original Severn road crossing between England and Wales, and took three and a half years to build, at a cost of £8 million. It replaced the 137-year-old Aust Ferry. The bridge was opened in 1966 by Queen Elizabeth II. For thirty years, the bridge carried the M4 motorway. It was granted Grade I listed status in 1999. Llanyrafon
Llanyrafon is a suburb of Cwmbran and a community in the county borough of Torfaen in south east Wales. It lies within the boundaries of the historic county of Monmouthshire and the preserved county of Gwent. Etymology Sometimes written on old maps and documents as ''Lan-yr-avon'', ''Llan-yr-avon'', or ''Llanyravon'', the name literally translates as "Church by the River". However, ''Llan'' meaning "Church"' is usually followed by a saint's name, and the resulting name is usually associated with a parish church. Neither is true for ''Llanyrafon'', so the older meaning of ''Llan'' as "an enclosed piece of land" may apply. Llan means an enclosed parcel of land belonging to a church though a church may not necessarily have been present on the land as for instance in the case of Llandaff.
