Verkehrsbetriebe Zürich
Verkehrsbetriebe Zürich (VBZ) is a public transport operator in the Swiss city of Zürich, and is wholly owned by the city. Previously known as the Städtische Strassenbahn Zürich (StStZ), the organisation was founded in 1896 and adopted its current name in 1950. The VBZ owns and operates trams, trolleybuses, buses, and a funicular. It also operates, but does not own, a further funicular, a rack railway, and the Stadtbahn Glattal light rail system. All of VBZ's passenger services are operated within the tariff and ticketing system provided by the cantonal public transport authority Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV). The ZVV tariff also covers other passenger transport services in and around the city, including the Zürich S-Bahn, although these are not operated by the VBZ. Zürich Tram Museum
The Zürich Tram Museum (German: ''Tram-Museum Zürich''; ''TMZ'') is a transport museum in the Swiss city of Zürich, specialising in the history of the Zürich tram system. The main museum site is located at the former tram depot, ''Tramdepot Burgwies''. The museum also maintains a workshop at the much smaller former tram depot of Wartau. The tram museum is run by an association, the ''Verein Tram Museum Zürich'', which has some 500 members, and is responsible for looking after the exhibits of the museum. The tram cars remain in the ownership of the Verkehrsbetriebe Zürich, the city-owned operator of the Zürich tram system. Forchbahn
The Forch railway (german: Forchbahn, FB, Frieda ) is a local railway line in the Swiss canton of Zürich. It is owned and operated by the Forchbahn AG, and is branded as line S18 of the Zürich S-Bahn. The standard Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV) zonal fare tariffs apply to the line. The line opened in 1912 and links the towns of Esslingen and Forch to Rehalp, an outer suburb of the city of Zürich. From Rehalp, trains continue over the Zürich tram system to a terminus at , outside the Zürich Stadelhofen railway station in central Zürich. The line is built to metre gauge ( gauge). Metre-gauge railways are narrow-gauge railways with track gauge of or 1 metre. The metre gauge is used in around of tracks around the world. It was used by European colonial powers, such as the French, British and German Empires. In Europe, large metre-gauge networks remain in use in Switzerland, Spain and many European towns with urban trams, but most metre-gauge local railways in France, Germany and Belgium closed down in the mid-20th century, although many still remain. With the revival of urban rail transport, metre-gauge light metros were established in some cities, and in other cities, metre gauge was replaced by standard gauge. VBG Verkehrsbetriebe Glattal AG operates local public transport in the Glattal and Furttal regions and in the Effretikon/Volketswil area in the north-east of Zürich on behalf of the Zürcher Verkehrsverbund. As a purely market-responsible company, VBG has been responsible exclusively for the planning and implementation of transport services since 1993. All transport services are provided by contractors who organise driving personnel and vehicles. In 2019, the VBG transport network consisted of 54 lines (bus 52, tram 2) with a route length of 285.0 km (bus 272.3 km, tram 12.7 km). 39 million passengers were transported.
