Vennaaru River
The Vennar River or Vennaaru is a river and distributary of the Kaveri River in the Kaveri delta. It flows through the Thanjavur district, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur district, Tiruvarur, and Nagapattinam districts of Tamil Nadu, India. Course The river begins at the Grand Anaicut at the eastern end of Srirangam Island, where it branches off from the Kaveri. After diverging from the Kaveri, the Vennar flows east. Northwest of Thennankudi, at the Thenperambur dam, the Vennar splits into a northern and southern branch. The northern branch becomes the Vettar River, while the southern branch continues east as the Vennar. The river flows to the north of Thanjavur and Ammapettai, Thanjavur, Ammapettai before turning to the southeast towards Needamangalam. Parantaka I
Parantaka Chola I (Tamil : பராந்தக சோழன் I) (873 CE–955 CE) was a Chola emperor who ruled for forty-eight years, annexing Pandya by defeating Rajasimhan II. The best part of his reign was marked by increasing success and prosperity. Invasion of the Pandya kingdom Parantaka I continued the expansion started by his father, and invaded the Pandya kingdom in 915. He captured the Pandyan capital Madurai and assumed the title Madurain-konda (Capturer of Madurai). The Pandyan ruler Maravarman Rajasinha II sought the help of Kassapa V of Anuradhapura who sent an army to his aid. Parantaka I defeated the combined army at the battle of Vellore. The Pandya king fled into exile in Sri Lanka and Parantaka I completed his conquest of the entire Pandya country. Chola
The Chola dynasty was a Tamils, Tamil thalassocratic Tamil Dynasties, empire of southern India and one of the longest-ruling dynasties in the history of the world. Velankanni
Velankanni (''Vēḷāṅkaṇṇi''), is a Special Grade Panchayat Town in Nagapattinam district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It lies on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal, 350 km south of Chennai (Madras), 12 km south of Nagapattinam, and 33 km southeast of Thiruvarur. Once a port that traded with Rome and Greece, the tiny commercial center gradually lost its importance to the larger city of Nagapattinam. The canal built to link this town with Vedaranyam still lies to the west. The Vellayar, a minor branch of the Cauvery River, runs south of the town and discharges into the sea. Koraiyar River (Tiruvarur District)
The Koraiyar River is a non-perennial river in the Tiruvarur district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is in the southern part of the Kaveri delta that covers much of the region of Chola Nadu. The Koraiyar begins as a distributary of the Vennaaru River where that river is dammed northwest of Needamangalam in Needamangalam taluk. After branching off from the Vennaaru, it flows southeast to the southwest of Needamangalam. It continues southeast for some distance, then turns sharply to the east. Pamaniyar River
The Pamaniyar or Pamani River is a non-perennial river in the Tiruvarur district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The river is part of the Kaveri delta, and is in the southern part of that system. The Pamaniyar originates as a distributary of the Vennaaru River, which it branches off from at a dam northwest of Needamangalam in Needamangalam taluk. It flows south from this point into Mannargudi taluk, passing to the east of Mannargudi and Asesham. It continues to flow south, where its course is parallel to State Highway 202 for some distance. After it is joined on its right bank by the Kannanar River, its largest tributary, it flows southeast into Thiruthiraipoondi taluk. Needamangalam
Needamangalam (Nidamangalam) formerly Yamunambalpuram, is a town panchayat in Thiruvarur district ( Composite Tanjore Dist) in the Cauvery Delta of Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Needamangalam was originally part of composite Tanjore District (Madras Presidency) during British Raj until 1997 AD.
