Vendore
Vendore is a village in the Thrissur district of Kerala, India. Vendore is situated in between Amballur, Thrissur, Amballur and Mannampetta. Vendore comes under AlagappaNagar GramaPanchayat and the nearest town is Amballur, about 2 km away. The football ground 'Alagappanagar Football Ground' is in Vendore. Vendore is also famous for St Mary's Church and Nambooriyachan Temple . One of the old known mills, Alagappanagar Textile Mill, is also located here. The Panchayath office is located in Vendore nearer to the Veterinary Hospital. History The name Vendore came from the group of peoples who came and settled from Kodungallur due to Tippu Battle years ago. Since they were doing trade of ''Manjal'' others started calling them Manjaly. ''Deepika'' (; known as ''Nasrani Deepika'' till 1939) is an Indian Malayalam-language newspaper, which is one of the oldest newspapers published in India. Started in 1887, it is the oldest Malayalam newspaper now in circulation. Deepika publishes editions from Kottayam, Kochi, Kannur, Thrissur, Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode. History Deepika newspaper was started in 1887 as Nasrani Deepika by a Syrian Catholic priest, Nidhirikkal Manikkathanar. Thiagarajar Polytechnic College, Alagappanagar is a Government-owned aided Vocational Education Institution in Thrissur district. The college was started by the educationalist and philanthropist, Dr. Alagappa Chettiar, who opened many educational institutions in Tamilnadu and Kerala. It was sanctioned by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India in 1956 and was the first aided polytechnic institution in India.
