Vejle Museum Of Art
Vejle Museum of Art ( da, Vejle Kunstmuseum) in the town centre of Vejle in southeastern Jutland, Denmark has Danish paintings and sculptures from classic modernism up until pre- COBRA on display. The museum is also home to a collection of Golden Age paintings from the Vejle area as well as a collection of drawings, e.g. 50 etchings by Rembrandt. Collection The museum was founded in 1899 when councillor Christian Eckardt donated approx. 2000 drawings. The present collection counts more than 15,000 works on paper including art by Albrecht Dürer, Andrea Mantegna and Rembrandt as well as Danish artists. The collection was substantially enhanced when in 1995 a butcher and his wife donated their collection of early COBRA works to the museum. Merete Barker
Merete Barker (born 1944) is a Danish artist who uses sketches and photographs from her many travels as the basis for highly expressive paintings where it is often difficult to distinguish between nature and culture. She has received various honorary scholarships, as well as the Eckersberg Medal and the Danish Arts Foundation’s Lifelong Artist’s Grant. Career Educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (1966-1973), she became a member of the ''Ny Abstraktion'' group in 1977 and in 1989 of ''Grønningen''. Her abstract approach to recognizable subjects and themes combines the constructive with the expressive, often in minimalistic series of wood carvings and reliefs. Morten Stræde
Morten Stræde (born 1956) is a Danish sculptor. He attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1978 to 1985 and later became a professor there (1994–2002). Morten Stræde had his breakthrough in the 1980s; in his art he uses both organic as well as geometric styles. In 2011, he created three new urban spaces in the Nørrebro borough in Copenhagen. Stræde was awarded the Premio Internazionale di scultura in 1999 and received the Eckersberg Medal in 2000. He has also received the Thorvaldsen Medal. In its appraisal of Stræde's work, the academy noted his ability to assess the history of the place and the physical location where his public art is to be displayed. Peter Brandes
Peter Brandes (born 5 March 1944 in Assens, Denmark) is a Danish painter, sculptor, ceramic artist and photographer. Brandes' art is abstract and often in brown colours. He had his breakthrough as artist in the beginning of the 1980s. Hans Christian Rylander
Hans Christian Rylander (born 1939, dead 2021) was a Danish painter, educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1965 to 1969. He uses an expressive and surreal style, in the 70's and 80's with a critical edge towards society. Rylander has exhibited his works at the Randers Museum of Art, at Storstrøms Kunstmuseum, and at Vejle Museum of Art. A major commission was the decoration in Christian IV's Supply Depot at Slotsholmen in Copenhagen.
