Vedrana Malec
Vedrana Malec (; born 24 March 1990, in Zagreb) is a Croatian cross-country skier who has been competing since 2006. She competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, which was her first Winter Olympics. She was selected to carry the Croatian flag at the closing ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics. Malec has competed at two Nordic World Ski Championships. Her best finish is 58th place in skiathlon event at the 2013 Nordic World Ski Championships. She won the 2012/13 edition of the FIS Balkan Cup in cross-country skiing, becoming the first Croatian cross-country skier to do so. She has competed three times in the Cross-Country World Cup. She has also competed at the 2013 Winter Universiade, where her best result was 30th place in the women's skiathlon. Justyna Maria Kowalczyk-Tekieli (born 19 January 1983) is a Polish cross-country skier who has been competing since 2000. Kowalczyk is a double Olympic Champion and a double World Champion. She is also the only skier to win the Tour de Ski four times in a row and one of two female skiers (the other being Finn Marjo Matikainen) to win the FIS Cross-Country World Cup three times in a row. Kowalczyk holds the all-time record for wins in the Tour de Ski with 14, and had 29 podiums in total. She also won the Vasaloppet women's edition in 2015. She is a member of cross country ski department of AZS AWF Katowice and is coached by Aleksander Wierietielny. The women's 30 kilometre mass start freestyle cross-country skiing competition at the 2014 Sochi Olympics took place on 22 February at Laura Biathlon & Ski Complex. Three Norwegian athletes, Marit Bjørgen, Therese Johaug, and Kristin Størmer Steira, took the lead from 1 km on and skied in the group, never being threatened by other competitors. At the finish line, Bjørgen won gold, Johaug finished second, and Størmer Steira was third. This is the first gold for Norway in women's 30 km race, and the first clean sweep in Olympic cross country skiing since 1992.
