Vazashen ( hy, Վազաշեն) is a village in the Tavush Province of Armenia. Toponymy The village was previously known as Lala Gegh ( hy, Լալա գեղ), then Lali Gyugh ( hy, Լալի գյուղ). The name of Vazashen was chosen to reflect the local vineyard production ( վազ/vaz 'grapevine' and շեն/shen 'village'). Tavush Province
Tavush ( hy, Տավուշ, ) is a province of Armenia located at the northeast of Armenia, bordered by Georgia from the north and Azerbaijan from the east. Internally, Tavush borders the Gegharkunik Province from the south, Kotayk Province from the southwest, and the Lori Province from west. The capital and largest city of the province is the town of Ijevan. Etymology The name of the province is derived from ''Tavush''; a variant of the original name of ''Tuchkatak'' canton of the historic Utik province of Ancient Armenia. Saint Vardan
Vardan Mamikonian ( hy, Վարդան Մամիկոնեան; – 451) was an Armenian military leader who led a rebellion against Sasanian Iran in 450–451. He was the head of the Mamikonian noble family and holder of the hereditary title of , the supreme commander of the Armenian armed forces. Vardan and most of his comrades died at the Battle of Avarayr in 451, but their sacrifice was immortalized in the works of the Armenian historians Yeghishe and Ghazar Parpetsi. He is regarded as a national hero among Armenians and venerated as a martyr and a saint of the Armenian Church. Vardan and the rebellion he led are commemorated in numerous works of art and literature.
