Vaxön
Vaxön is an island in the Stockholm archipelago in Sweden. It is situated in Vaxholm Municipality and Stockholm County. Until 2020, the urban area of Vaxholm, as defined by Statistics Sweden, was entirely contained within the island of Vaxön. However in that year, the adjacent island of Kullö was redefined as part of the urban area. Vaxön is linked to the Swedish mainland by a series of road bridges, and the car ferry connects Vaxön to the island of Rindö across the Kodjupet strait. Kodjupet
Kodjupet is a strait in Sweden's Stockholm Archipelago. Along with the , it is one of two shipping routes connecting the open sea to the city of Stockholm, passing either side of the island of Rindö. Today the Kodjupet is suitable only for smaller vessels, due to its narrow and twisting nature together with a minimum water depth of , but it was formerly the principal route for commercial and naval ships. It passes close offshore of the town of Vaxholm. Although winding in nature, the strait runs broadly from north to south on its route from the sea to the city. It is flanked by the islands of Resarö, Edholma and Vaxön to the west, and Stegesund-Hästholmen, Skarpö and Rindö to the east. Vaxholm
Vaxholm is a locality and the seat of Vaxholm Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden. It is located on the island of in the Stockholm archipelago. The name Vaxholm comes from Vaxholm Castle, which was constructed in 1549 on an islet with this name on the inlet to Stockholm, for defence purposes, by King Gustav Vasa. For historical reasons it has always been referred to as a ''city'', despite the small number of inhabitants, which as of 2010 total was 4,857. Vaxholm Municipality prefers to use the designation ''Vaxholms stad'' (City of Vaxholm) for its whole territory, including 64 islets in the Stockholm archipelago, a usage which is somewhat confusing. Waxholms Ångfartygs AB, commonly referred to as Waxholmsbolaget, is a shipping company owned by Stockholm county council and is responsible for the seaborne public transport in the Stockholm archipelago and Stockholm harbour.
