Vatsala Deshmukh
Vatsala Deshmukh ( mr, वत्सला देशमुख; 1930 – 12 March 2022) was an Indian Marathi and Hindi actress. Life and career Deshmukh started her career as a model and later joined the show business. She made her screen debut with the Hindi movie "Toofan and Deeya", directed by Prabhat Kumar. Deshmukh's younger sister, Vijaya Deshmukh, was married to V. Shantaram, and became known as an actress Sandhya Shantaram. Deshmukh was the mother of actress Ranjana Deshmukh. She died on 12 March 2022, at the age of 92. Marathi cinema is an Indian film industry of Marathi-language motion pictures. It is based in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Based in old Mumbai, it is the oldest film industry of Indian cinema. The first Marathi film to be released in India was ''Shree Pundalik'' by Dadasaheb Torne on 18 May 1912 at Coronation Cinematograph, Mumbai. and a Marathi crew who were performing Marathi and Sanskrit (musicals) and plays in Marathi at that period. ''Kashino Dikro'' () is a 1979 Indian Gujarati film directed by Kanti Madia. Being the first and the only film of Madia, it starred Rajiv, Ragini, Rita Bhaduri, and Pranlal Kharsani. The film was produced by Cine India International. Adapted from Vinodini Nilkanth's short story ''Dariyav Dil'', film's script and dialogues were written by Prabodh Joshi. Barun Mukherji was a cinematographer. The film features music composed by Kshemu Divetia, who earned State Films Award in Best Music Director category for the film. Plot Kashi (Ragini) raises her brother-in-law (Rajiv), who dies on his wedding night from snakebite. His widowed wife Rama (Bhaduri) get raped by Kashi's husband, and she becomes pregnant. ''Pinjara'' ( mr, पिंजरा; ''Cage'') (pronounced as pinj-ra) is a 1972 Marathi film, directed by V. Shantaram, starring Shriram Lagoo and Sandhya in the lead roles. In 1972, the film was also released in Hindi with the same title. Set in the Tamasha folk musical theatre of Maharashtra, the film is about a morally righteous school teacher, Lagoo, who wants to reform a Tamasha performer, played by Sandhya, but ends up falling in love with her. It is an adaptation of Heinrich Mann's 1905 novel ''Professor Unrat'' (''Professor Garbage''). The film is known for its music and dance numbers with music by Ram Kadam.
