Vasili Ponomaryov
Vasili Pavlovich Ponomaryov (alternately spelled Vasily Ponomarev, russian: Василий Павлович Пономарёв; born 13 March 2002) is a Russian professional ice hockey player for the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League (AHL) as a prospect for the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League (NHL). Playing career Ponomaryov was drafted ninth overall by the Shawinigan Cataractes in the 2019 CHL Import Draft. During his rookie season in 2019–20, he recorded 18 goals and 31 assists in 57 games for the Cataractes. During the 2020–21 season, he recorded 10 goals and 28 assists in 33 games. Ponomaryov was drafted in the second round, 53rd overall, by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. On 13 October 2020, the Hurricanes signed Ponomaryov to a three-year, entry-level contract. On 9 June 2021, the Hurricanes loaned Ponomarev to the HC Spartak Moscow of the KHL. The Junior Hockey League (JHL) (russian: Молодежная Хоккейная Лига (МХЛ), Molodezhnaya Hokkeinaya Liga), sometimes translated as the ''Minor'' or ''Youth'' Hockey League, is a major junior ice hockey league in Eurasia, founded in 2009. MHC Krylya Sovetov
MHC Krylya Sovetov (russian: МХК Крылья Советов; lit. ''Moscow Hockey Club Soviet Wings'') was a professional ice hockey team based in Moscow, Russia. The team existed for 2 years after PHC Krylya Sovetov were expelled from the Soviet Wings Sport Palace in 2008 and the owner of the arena created a new team. MHC Krylya Sovetov was reunited with PHC Krylya Sovetov in 2010. A penalty in ice hockey is a punishment for an infringement of the rules. Most penalties are enforced by sending the offending player to a penalty box for a set number of minutes. During the penalty the player may not participate in play. Penalties are called and enforced by the referee, or in some cases, the linesman. The offending team may not replace the player on the ice (although there are some exceptions, such as fighting), leaving them short-handed as opposed to full strength. When the opposing team is said to be on a ''power play'', they will have one more player on the ice than the short-handed team. The short-handed team is said to be "on the penalty kill" until the penalty expires and the penalized player returns to play. In ice hockey, point has three contemporary meanings. Personal stat A point is awarded to a player for each goal scored or assist earned. The total number of goals plus assists equals total points. The Art Ross Trophy is awarded to the National Hockey League (NHL) player who leads the league in scoring points at the end of the regular season. Team stat Points are also awarded to assess standings (or rankings). Historically, teams were awarded two points for each win, one point for each tie and no points for a loss. Assist (ice Hockey)
In ice hockey, an assist is attributed to up to two players of the scoring team who shot, passed or deflected the puck towards the scoring teammate, or touched it in any other way which enabled the goal, meaning that they were "assisting" in the goal. There can be a maximum of two assists per goal. The assists will be awarded in the order of play, with the last player to pass the puck to the goal scorer getting the primary assist and the player who passed it to the primary assister getting the secondary assist. Players who gain an assist will get one point added to their player statistics. In ice hockey, a goal is scored when the puck entirely crosses the goal line between the two goal posts and below the goal crossbar. A goal awards one point to the team attacking the goal scored upon, regardless of which team the player who actually deflected the puck into the goal belongs to (see also own goal). Typically, a player on the team attempting to score shoots the puck with their stick towards the goal net opening, and a player on the opposing team called a goaltender tries to block the shot to prevent a goal from being scored against their team. 2022 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships
The 2022 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships were the 46th edition of the IIHF World Junior Championship, played from August 9–20, 2022 at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The tournament was originally scheduled to be held from December 26, 2021, through January 5, 2022, in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta, Red Deer — the host cities originally awarded the 2021 tournament before it was moved into a "Bubble (sports), bubble" Behind closed doors (sport), behind closed doors in Edmonton due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After COVID-19 outbreaks on multiple teams, the tournament was cancelled by the IIHF on December 29, 2021. In February 2022, it was announced that the tournament would be replayed from scratch at a later date, with all statistics and results from the first playing being thrown out.
