During the Soviet deportations from Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina, his parents and his sister were deported from Moldovan SSR (Bessarabia) to Siberia. In 1950, he founded the Democratic Agrarian Party, one of the largest and best anti-Soviet resistance organizations in rural areas of the Moldovan SSR. Ion Țurcanu
Ion Țurcanu (born 15 January 1946) is an author, educator, historian, memoirist, professor, former member of the Parliament (1990–1994), politician and Romanian writer from Moldova. He is one of the 277 MPs of the first parliament of the former Soviet Socialist Republic (later the Republic of Moldova), who voted for the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova on 27 August 1991. Biography Țurcanu was born on January 15, 1946, in Bălănești, Nisporeni, Găurenii de Sus, former Lăpușna County (Moldova), Lăpușna County. He graduated from Moldova State University in 1969 and obtained his doctorate in history in 1975. He started work as a teacher in the village Bărboieni, Nisporeni District. After obtaining his PhD, he became a senior lecturer, then lecturer at the Pedagogical Institute "Ion Creangă". Rîbnița
Rîbnița ( or , , ) or Rybnitsa (; ) is a town in the breakaway state, breakaway Moldovan region of Transnistria. According to the 2004 Census in Transnistria, 2004 census, it has a population of 53,648. Rîbnița is situated in the northern half of Transnistria, on the left bank of the Dniester, and is separated from the river by a concrete dam. The town is the seat of the Rîbnița District.
