Vanuatu Rugby Football Union
The Vanuatu Rugby Football Union, or VRFU, is the governing body for rugby union in Vanuatu. It was established in the 1960s, but only became fully affiliated to the International Rugby Board (IRB) in 1999. The Vanuatu Rugby Football Union is a full member of the Federation of Oceania Rugby Unions (FORU), which is the regional governing body for rugby union in Oceania. National teams Vanuatu's national team, the Tuskers, has not yet played in a world cup but has competed at the South Pacific Games, including winning a bronze medal for rugby 15s (as New Hebrides) in 1966. Vanuatu fields teams in 7s competitions as well as 15s. The national women's 7s team was established in 2011. Vanuatu National Rugby Union Team
The Vanuatu national rugby union team represents Vanuatu in the sport of rugby union. The team is classified as a tier three nation by the International Rugby Board (IRB), and has yet to qualify for a Rugby World Cup. Its international debut was in 1966. The team is nicknamed the Tuskers, after the pig tusks prized as currency in some parts of the country. The tusks also appear on the country's flag. Pacific Games
The Pacific Games (French: Jeux du Pacifique), is a continental multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from Oceania. The inaugural Games took place in 1963 in Suva, Fiji, and most recently in 2019 in Apia, Samoa. The Games were called the South Pacific Games from 1963 to 2007. The Pacific Games Council (PGC) organises the Games and oversees the host city's preparations. Athletes with a disability are included as full members of their national teams. In each sporting event, gold medals are awarded for first place, silver medals are awarded for second place, and bronze medals are awarded for third place. Nine different cities in six countries and territories have hosted the Pacific Games. The Vanuatu national rugby sevens team is Vanuatu's representative in rugby sevens. History At the 1999 South Pacific Games held in Guam, Vanuatu won its second rugby medal, defeating Solomon Islands for the bronze in the rugby 7s. The first bronze medal had been won for the rugby 15's in 1966, as New Hebrides. In the 2000 Telecom Oceania Sevens held in Rarotonga, Vanuatu went on to beat Tahiti 31–0 to win the Bowl. The tournament was a qualifier for the 2001 Rugby World Cup Sevens and the last World Cup place was taken by the Cook Islands, who won the Oceania Sevens Cup. At the 2011 Pacific Games, Vanuatu finished in 9th place, defeating Tahiti 7–17.
