Vanessa Sarno
Vanessa Palomar Sarno (born September 28, 2003) is a Filipino weightlifter who has competed in the Asian Championships. Early career and education Sarno was born on September 28, 2003 and was the second of four children. Her parents work as fishers for their family's livelihood. Sarno took up weightlifting after she joined her cousins train in a gymnasium in their home province of Bohol. She then developed a hobby of lifting barbells. She was also influenced to take up the sport at 9 years old by her father, who also competed as a powerlifter in his youth. She also attended the Bohol Institute of Technology in Tagbilaran for her secondary education. At a young age, she joined the Philippine Sports Commission-organized 2014 Batang Pinoy which was hosted in Bacolod, where she won a gold medal in the -32kg category. Olympic Weightlifting
Olympic weightlifting, or Olympic-style weightlifting (officially named Weightlifting), is a sport in which athletes compete in lifting a barbell loaded with weight plates from the ground to overhead, with each athlete trying to successfully lift the heaviest weights. Athletes compete in two specific ways of lifting the barbell overhead: these are the snatch and the clean and jerk. The ''snatch'' is a wide-grip lift, in which the weighted barbell is lifted overhead in one motion. The ''clean and jerk'' is a combination lift, in which the weight is first taken from the ground to the front of the shoulders (the clean), and then from the shoulders to overhead (the jerk). 2022 World Weightlifting Championships
The 2022 World Weightlifting Championships was a weightlifting competition held in Bogotá, Colombia in December 2022. It was scheduled to be held in Chongqing, China but this changed in March 2022 as a result of COVID-19 measures in China. The new location was announced in April 2022. It was the first time Colombia hosted the World Weightlifting Championships. The event served as a qualification event for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. Weightlifters from Russia and Belarus did not compete after a ban as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. North Korea also did not compete after the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) tightened its rules on anti-doping controls. 2021 World Weightlifting Championships
The 2021 World Weightlifting Championships was a weightlifting competition held from 7 to 17 December in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Due to concerns about the rapid spread of Omicron variant and held shortly after Olympics and Chinese National Games, the tournament faced the absence of many strong competitors. 10 Olympic champions from Tokyo four months earlier, 15 world champion title holders, and entire teams from China, North Korea, Italy and Germany decided not to compete. Weightlifters competing at the event were exempt from the required quarantine when visiting Uzbekistan.
