Valu Beach
Valu Beach (Fataluku: , tet, Tasi-ibun Valu, pt, Praia Valu) is a public beach at the easternmost tip of mainland East Timor, and the gateway to Jaco Island to its east. Geography The beach is located in the ''suco'' of Tutuala, Lautém municipality, opposite Jaco Island. It is made up of white sand, and is partly surrounded by ancient virgin forests. Its waters are translucent, and suitable for swimming, snorkelling, and diving. Local people claim that the beach is "... a place of great spiritual, cultural, historical and ecological significance not just for Tutuala and Lautem district but for all of Timor-Leste." The beach, ''suco'' and island all lie within Nino Konis Santana National Park, the first national park in East Timor. Lautém Municipality
Lautém ( pt, Município Lautém, ) is one of the municipalities (formerly districts) of East Timor, at the eastern end of the country. It has a population of 64,135 (census 2010) and an area of 1,813 km². Its capital is Lospalos, which lies 248 km east of the national capital, Dili. Etymology The word ''Lautém'' is a Portuguese approximation of the local Fataluku language word ''Lauteinu''. That word, in turn, is a portmanteau of the Fataluku words ''lau'' ('cloth') und ''tein'' ('sacred'), ie 'sacred cloth'. Jaco Island ( pt, Ilha de Jaco, tet, Illa Jako, Fataluku: or ) is an uninhabited island in East Timor, a country occupying the eastern end of the island of Timor in the Lesser Sunda Islands in Southeast Asia. Photosensitivity is an abnormal skin reaction to direct sunlight exposure. It is unrelated to a sunburn. ''Palola viridis'', (or ''Eunice viridis)'' commonly known as the palolo worm, Samoan palolo worm, balolo, wawo, or nyale, is a Polychaeta species from the waters of some of the Pacific islands, including Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, and the islands of the Malay Archipelago (Indonesia , Timor-Leste and the Philippines ).
