Valgerður Gunnarsdóttir
Valgerður Gunnarsdóttir is an Icelandic politician, a member of the Icelandic parliament, and the former headmaster of Laugar Junior College. She was a member of HúsavÃk town council from 1986 to 1998 and served as the president of the town council from 1994 to 1998. Valgerður has been a member of the Budget Committee since 2013 and a member of the Icelandic Delegation to the Nordic Council from the same year. Town Council
A town council, city council or municipal council is a form of local government for small municipalities. Usage of the term varies under different jurisdictions. Republic of Ireland In 2002, 49 urban district councils and 26 town commissioners were redesignated as 75 town councils as a tier of local government below the county council. Five additional local authorities retained the higher status as borough councils. Nordic Council
The Nordic Council is the official body for formal inter-parliamentary Nordic cooperation among the Nordic countries. Formed in 1952, it has 87 representatives from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden as well as from the autonomous areas of the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Åland. The representatives are members of parliament in their respective countries or areas and are elected by those parliaments. The Council holds ordinary sessions each year in October/November and usually one extra session per year with a specific theme. Laugar Junior College
Laugar is a hamlet in the Northeastern Region Iceland, on the Reykjadalsá river, a left tributary of the Laxá à Aðaldal river. Route 1 runs through the village between Akureyri and ReykjahlÃð. It is largest village in the municipality of Þingeyjarsveit. In 2018, it had a population of 109 people. Laugar developed around thermal springs, hence its name, which in Icelandic means "hot springs". Laugar is located on the Diamond Circle tourist route. Alþingi
The (; ), anglicised as Althingi or Althing, is the supreme national parliament of Iceland. It is the oldest surviving parliament in the world. The Althing was founded in 930 at (' thing fields' or 'assembly fields'), about east of what later became the country's capital, ReykjavÃk. After Iceland's union with Norway in 1262, the Althing lost its legislative power, which was not restored until 1904 when Iceland gained home rule from Denmark. For 641 years, the Althing did not serve as the parliament of Iceland; ultimate power rested with the Norwegian, and subsequently the Danish throne.
