Valdemaras Rupšys
Lieutenant general Valdemaras Rupšys (born 2 May 1967 in Šiauliai, Lithuania) is a Lithuanian military officer serving as the current Lithuanian Chief of Defence. He began his military career in the Lithuanian Armed Forces on 1 November 1990. In 2005, he was appointed to serve at the General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania. In 2011, he was appointed to lead the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf. In 2016, he was appointed to the position of the Commander of the Land Forces, with the rank of brigadier general granted to him by the decree of President Dalia Grybauskaitė. In November 2018, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the restoration of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, he was awarded the rank of Major General. Lieutenant General
Lieutenant general (Lt Gen, LTG and similar) is a three-star military rank (NATO code OF-8) used in many countries. The rank traces its origins to the Middle Ages, where the title of lieutenant general was held by the second-in-command on the battlefield, who was normally subordinate to a captain general. In modern armies, lieutenant general normally ranks immediately below general and above major general; it is equivalent to the navy rank of vice admiral, and in air forces with a separate rank structure, it is equivalent to air marshal. A lieutenant general commands an army corps, made up of typically three army divisions, and consisting of around 60 000 to 70 000 soldiers (U.S.). The seeming incongruity that a lieutenant general outranks a major general (whereas a major outranks a lieutenant) is due to the derivation of major general from sergeant major general, which was a rank subordinate to lieutenant general (as a lieutenant outranks a sergeant major). General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy Of Lithuania
The General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania (''Generolo Jono Žemaičio Lietuvos karo akademija'') is a state-sponsored institution of higher learning based in Vilnius, Lithuania. It was founded in 1994 by the Lithuanian Seimas, and is overseen by the Ministry of National Defense. It is named in honor of General Jonas Žemaitis, commander of the armed anti-Soviet resistance in Lithuania. History The academy continues the traditions of War School of Kaunas, established on 9 March 1919. Dalia Grybauskaitė (; born 1 March 1956) is a Lithuanian politician who served as the eighth President of Lithuania from 2009 until 2019. The acronym CHOD is in common use within NATO and the European Union as a generic term for the highest national military position within the NATO and EU member states, rather than the actual term used for individual positions. Gitanas Nausėda (born 19 May 1964) is a Lithuanian economist, politician and banker who is serving as the ninth and incumbent President of Lithuania since 2019. He was previously director of monetary policy at the Bank of Lithuania from 1996 until 2000 and chief economist to the chairman of SEB bankas from 2008 until 2018.
