Valdemar Michael Amdrup
Valdemar Michael Amdrup (1 October 1860 - 11 May 1937) was a Danish lawyer and the second president of the Danish Society for Nature Conservation from 1915 to 21. Early life and education Amdrup was born on 1 October 1860, the son of banker Valdemar Amdrup and Line Michaelia Holm. He graduated from Værnedamsvejens Latin- og Realskole in 1878 and completed his law studies (cand. jur.) at the University of Copenhagen in 1884. Career Amdryp was a paralegal at Villhelm Lund's law firm from 4 April 1994. He was licensed as an attorney (''højesteretssagfører'') on 2 June 1888. In 1905–18, he was a judge at the Tiendekommissionen. In 1909 he assumed a position as chief legal officer of Den sjællandske Bondestands Sparekasse. He was a member of the Tax Council for Copenhagen from 1906 and a board member of A/S Sagførernes Auktioner and chairman of A/S American Tobacco Co., A/S, Slangerupbanen, A/S Dunlop Rubber Co. and A/S Højgaard og Schultz. The Danish Society for Nature Conservation, in Danish ''Danmarks Naturfredningsforening'', founded 1911, is an incorporated non-governmental organization based in Denmark. It works for environmental protection and biodiversity, improved environmental legislation, consideration for the natural environment in public planning, and public access to natural resources. The Society is a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Order Of The Dannebrog
The Order of the Dannebrog ( da, Dannebrogordenen) is a Danish order of chivalry instituted in 1671 by Christian V. Until 1808, membership in the order was limited to fifty members of noble or royal rank, who formed a single class known as ''White Knights'' to distinguish them from the ''Blue Knights'' who were members of the Order of the Elephant. In 1808, the Order was reformed and divided into four classes. The ''Grand Commander'' class is reserved to persons of princely origin. It is awarded only to royalty with close family ties with the Danish Royal House. The statute of the Order was amended in 1951 by a Royal Ordinance so that both men and women could be members of the Order. Today, the Order of the Dannebrog is a means of honouring and rewarding the faithful servants of the modern Danish state for meritorious civil or military service, for a particular contribution to the arts, sciences or business life, or for working for Danish interests. Dannebrogordenens Hæderstegn, also referred to as the Cross of Honour of the Order of the Dannebrog (post-nominals: D.Ht.), is a meritous award connected to the Danish Order of the Dannebrog. The cross was instituted by King Frederick VI of Denmark and Norway on 28 June 1808, and was named Dannebrogsmændenes Hæderstegn (D.M.) until 1952. The cross may be awarded to Danes who have provided a service to "the fatherland" through a noble deed. It is also worn by the individual members of the royal family. The cross is of lesser rank than the Order of the Dannebrog, but is considered an additional recognition if awarded (and in modern times it is only awarded) to someone who is already a holder of the Order. Rågeleje
Rågeleje is a former fishing village and popular tourist resort on the north coast of Zealand, midway between Gilleleje and Tisvildeleje, some 50 km north of Copenhagen, Denmark. As of 2022, it had a population of 736. History The fishing village The name Rågeleje was first mentioned in 1582 in the form Raageleie, meaning the harbour of Råge (1211 Roka), a no longer existing settlement. Rågeleje remained a quiet fishing community where the families supplemented their income with a bit of sheep herding until the late 19th century. The fishing village was located at the mouth of the Højbro Stream. The fisherman on the west side of the stream was traditionally known as the Vejby fishermen while the ones on the east side were known as the Hesselbjerg fishermen. Rågeleje had 55 residents in 1890 of which 13 were fishermen. Georg Carl Amdrup
Vice Admiral Sir Georg Carl Amdrup (Copenhagen, Denmark, November 19, 1866 – Copenhagen, January 15, 1947), RN was a Danish naval officer, Vice Admiral and Greenland researcher. Career In 1884, Amdrup, of the Royal Danish Navy, was sent to Amassalik. After wintering, he explored the coast to the north, including an examination of the Kangerlussuaq Fjord, known until then only from Inuit reports. He mapped a large length of coastline while collecting many geological and ethnological finds. By July 1885, he reached Aggas Island (67° 22' North), the furthest north of this survey.
