Vagelis Protopapas
Evangelos "Vangelis" Vourtzoumis (alternate spelling: Vaggelis) ( el, Βαγγέλης Βουρτζούμης) (born October 30, 1969) is a retired Greek professional basketball player. Professional career Vourtzoumis won three European titles on three different Greek teams. In 1993, he played with Aris and with them he won the FIBA Cup Winners' Cup against Efes, at Torino. In 1996, he played with Panathinaikos, and with them he was a winner of the EuroLeague championship at Paris. In 2001, he won the FIBA Saporta Cup championship with Maroussi. Vourtzoumis also won the Greek League championship in 1989, 1990, and 1991, and two Greek Cups, in 1990 and 1992, while playing with Aris. He also won the 1998 Greek League championship, and the 1996 Greek Cup title, with Panathinaikos. Panathinaikos Football Club B, known as Panathinaikos B, (Greek: ΠΑΕ Παναθηναϊκός B) is a Greek football club based in Athens, Greece. Founded in 2021, they play as the reserve team of Panathinaikos in the Super League Greece 2. Panathinaikos B is one of four reserve teams givens approval from the EPO ( Hellenic Football Association) to play in the second division. Reserve teams must play a league below their main side, therefore, Panathinaikos B are ineligible for promotion to the Super League Greece. They cannot play in the Greek Cup either. The Greece men's national basketball team ( el, Eθνική Oμάδα Καλαθοσφαίρισης Ελλάδος) represents Greece in international basketball. They are controlled by the Hellenic Basketball Federation, the governing body for basketball in Greece. Greece is currently ranked ninth in the FIBA World Rankings. Greece appeared eight times at the FIBA World Cup, their best performance coming in 2006 as runners-up, after beating the United States 101–95 in the tournament's semi-final. Greece took part the in the EuroBasket 28 times, winning the tournament twice; while also coming away with one silver ( 1989) as well as two bronze medals (1949, 2009).
