Vadzim Straltsou
Vadzim Mikalayevich Straltsou ( be, Вадзім Мікалаевіч Стральцоў; Łacinka: Vadzim Mikałajevič Stralcoŭ; born 30 April 1986) is a Belarusian weightlifter. Competing in men's 94 kg, he is the 2015 World champion and 2016 Olympic silver medalist. Career In 2006, Straltsou dominated the 85 kg class by winning the gold medal at the Junior World Weightlifting Championships in Hangzhou, China. He took bronze at the 2007 World Championships in Chiang Mai. Straltsou represented Belarus at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, competing in the men's light heavyweight category along with his compatriot Andrei Rybakou, who eventually won the silver medal. He did not finish the event, after failing to lift a snatch of 170 kg in three attempts. Competing in men's 94 kg, Straltsou won gold at the 2015 World Championships in Houston. Snatch (weightlifting)
The snatch is the first of two lifts contested in the sport of weightlifting (also known as Olympic weightlifting) followed by the clean and jerk. The objective of the snatch is to lift the barbell from the ground to overhead in one continuous motion. There are four main styles of snatch used: snatch (or full snatch), split snatch, power snatch, and muscle snatch. The full lift is the most common style used in competition, while power snatches and muscle snatches are mostly used for training purposes, and split snatches are rarely used. Any of these lifts can be performed from the floor, from the hang position, or from blocks. In competition, only lifts from the floor are allowed. Andrei Rybakou ( be, Андрэй Анатолевіч Рыбакоў) (born March 4, 1982) is a former Belarusian weightlifter, Olympian and two-time World Champion who competed in the 85 kg category. In 2016, after a retest of his 2008 samples tested positive for Dehydrochloromethyl-testosterone and Stanozolol his performance at the 2008 Olympic Games was disqualified, as well as his Olympic record and World record set during the competition. Weightlifting At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's 85 Kg
The men's 85 kilograms weightlifting event was the fifth men's event at the weightlifting competition, limiting competitors to a maximum of 85 kilograms of body mass. The whole competition took place on August 15, but was divided in two parts due to the number of competitors. Group B weightlifters competed at 10:00, and Group A, at 19:00. This event was the seventh Weightlifting event to conclude. Each lifter performed in both the snatch and clean and jerk lifts, with the final score being the sum of the lifter's best result in each. The athlete received three attempts in each of the two lifts; the score for the lift was the heaviest weight successfully lifted. Tie-breaking rules determined the winner.
