VTB United League Supercup
The VTB United League Supercup, also credited as VTB League Super Cup, is a men's professional basketball supercup competition between teams from the VTB United League. Its main sponsor is VTB Bank. It is a regional competition, that is contested between teams from five countries: Russia, Belarus, Estonia, Kazakhstan and Poland. In the first edition of the Supercup in 2021 all participants were from Russia. History The VTB United League Council, held online on June 12, 2021, in the press center of the Russian news agency TASS, approved the creation of an annual Supercup with the participation of the best 4 teams of the previous regular season. The winner will be awarded the Alexander Gomelsky Cup, named after the legendary CSKA and Soviet national team coach. 2021–22 VTB United League
The 2021–22 VTB United League is the 13th season of the VTB United League. It is the 9th season that the league functions as the Russian domestic first tier level. Teams A total of 10 teams from three countries contest the league, including eight sides from Russia, one from Belarus, and one from Kazakhstan. BC Khimki didn't apply for this season because of the financial difficulties. On 24 February 2022 Kalev/Cramo terminated their membership with VTB United League due to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. The USSR Basketball Cup, or Soviet Union Basketball Cup, was the national basketball cup competition of the former Soviet Union. The first USSR Cup was held in the year 1949, and the last one was held in the year 1987. The competition was not held every year, as it was only contested 11 times between the years 1949 and 1987. Thomas E'sean Wimbush (born December 8, 1993) is an American basketball player for Kawasaki Brave Thunders of the B.League. Professional career After his college experience with the Fairmont State Falcons, Wimbush was drafted 4th overall in the 2017 NBA G League draft and he played in the NBA G League for two seasons with the Long Island Nets, averaging 9.9 points and 4 rebounds per game in the 2018-2019 season. In the following season, Wimbush played in Germany in the Basketball Bundesliga with MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg, averaging 10.2 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. William Dalen Clyburn (born May 17, 1990) is an American professional basketball player for Anadolu Efes of the Turkish Basketball Super League and the EuroLeague. Clyburn attended three colleges, from 2008 to 2013: Marshalltown Community College, University of Utah, and Iowa State University before playing professionally in Germany, Israel, Turkey, and Russia. The 2022–23 VTB United League will be the 13th season of the VTB United League. It will be the 10th season that the league functions as the Russian domestic top tier level. It was started on 2 October 2022 with the regular season and will end in June 2023 with the finals. Zenit Saint Petersburg will be the defending champion. Format changes For this season, the regular season will be divided into two phases since none team will participate in European competitions due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. PBC Lokomotiv Kuban (russian: ПБК «Локомотив Кубань») is a Russian professional basketball team based in Krasnodar. The club participates in the VTB United League.
