Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 51 (VR-51), nicknamed the Windjammers, is a United States Navy Reserve transport squadron of the United States Navy's Fleet Logistics Support Wing, stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. It is a reserve unit composed of both active duty and Selected Reserve sailors. The squadron maintains two Boeing 737-700C aircraft, designated as the C-40A Clipper, having received their first C-40 in May 2019, with the second one arriving in July. Previously, the squadron operated the Gulfstream C-20G. Fleet Logistics Support Wing
The Fleet Logistics Support Wing (abbreviated as FLSW, also referred to as Commander, Fleet Logistics Support Wing, CFLSW) is a reserve aircraft wing of the United States Navy, stationed at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, Texas. The wing contains 100 percent of the Navy's intra-theater airlift capability, having no active-duty counterpart. The wing is subordinate to the Commander, Naval Air Force Reserve at Naval Air Station North Island, California. History The wing was commissioned at Naval Support Activity New Orleans, Louisiana in 1974 as the Reserve Tactical Support Wing, before being redesignated to its present name in 1983. Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay or MCAS Kaneohe Bay is a United States Marine Corps (USMC) airfield located within the Marine Corps Base Hawaii complex, formerly known as Marine Corps Air Facility (MCAF) Kaneohe Bay or Naval Air Station (NAS) Kaneohe Bay. Most of the original contract work at Kaneohe had been completed when the Navy transferred what was undone to the Seabees of the 56th Naval Construction Battalion on 1 April 1943. The 112th CB was tasked with adding a second runway 400' x 5,000' to the airfield. That was completed by the men of the 74th CB. December 7, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy attacked the air station minutes prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor. Of the 36 Catalinas stationed here, 27 were destroyed and six others were damaged, along with 18 sailors who perished in the attack. An airlift is the organized delivery of supplies or personnel primarily via military transport aircraft. Airlifting consists of two distinct types: strategic and tactical. Typically, strategic airlifting involves moving material long distances (such as across or off the continent or theater), whereas a tactical airlift focuses on deploying resources and material into a specific location with high precision.
