VP-30
Patrol Squadron 30 (VP-30) is a maritime patrol squadron of the United States Navy, established on 30 June 1960. It is based at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida. Mission VP-30's mission is to provide Lockheed P-3C Orion and Boeing P-8A Poseidon specific training to Naval Aviators, Naval Flight Officers, and enlisted Naval Aircrewman prior to reporting to the fleet. More than 650 staff personnel train over 800 officer and enlisted personnel annually, utilizing 10 P-3C and 10 P-8A aircraft. In addition to U.S. Navy enlisted, officer and NOAA Commissioned Officer Corps personnel, foreign military personnel from Australia, Canada, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Germany, Spain, Argentina Thailand, Chile, and the Republic of Korea have all received specific aircrew and maintenance training on different variants of the P-3 at VP-30. The Lockheed P-3 Orion is a four-engined, turboprop anti-submarine and maritime surveillance aircraft developed for the United States Navy and introduced in the 1960s. It was established on 30 June 1960 to train replacement aircrew and maintenance personnel. It was disestablished on 1 November 1993. Insignia The only insignia for VP-31 was approved on 25 July 1962, and was selected to represent the anti-submarine warfare (ASW) training program used to educate patrol squadron aircrew of FAW-14. The central figure of the design was a submarine at the focal point of four beams from on high. Above the submarine was a magic lamp from which issued a wisp of smoke. Judith Neuffer
Judith Neuffer "Judy" Bruner (born Judith Ann Neuffer; June 13, 1948 - December 13, 2022) was an American Naval aviation, naval aviator and NASA manager. She was the first woman to serve as a Lockheed P-3 Orion, P-3 pilot in the United States Navy. She was part of the first group of women to receive orders for Navy Flight Training in 1973 and was first to earn her pilot's wings. Lieutenant William Andrew Owens was her primary flight instructor. She was the first female Navy pilot to fly through a hurricane. She also attained the rank of Navy Captain. She served as a senior manager at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, where she led numerous large programs.
