Judith Neuffer
Judith Neuffer "Judy" Bruner (born Judith Ann Neuffer; June 13, 1948 - December 13, 2022) was an American Naval aviation, naval aviator and NASA manager. She was the first woman to serve as a Lockheed P-3 Orion, P-3 pilot in the United States Navy. She was part of the first group of women to receive orders for Navy Flight Training in 1973 and was first to earn her pilot's wings. Lieutenant William Andrew Owens was her primary flight instructor. She was the first female Navy pilot to fly through a hurricane. She also attained the rank of Navy Captain. She served as a senior manager at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, where she led numerous large programs. Earth Observing System
The Earth Observing System (EOS) is a program of NASA comprising a series of artificial satellite missions and scientific instruments in Earth orbit designed for long-term global observations of the land surface, biosphere, atmosphere, and oceans. Since the early 1970s, NASA has been developing its Earth Observing System, launching a series of LANDSAT satellites in the decade. Some of the first included Passive-Microwave imaging in 1972 through the Nimbus 5 Satellite. Following the launch of various satellite missions, the conception of the program began in the late 80s and expanded rapidly through the 90s.
