VA 133
State Route 133 (SR 133) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. Known as Kingsville Road, the state highway runs from SR 692 at Hampden-Sydney east to U.S. Route 15 (US 15) at Kingsville in central Prince Edward County. SR 133 provides access to Hampden–Sydney College. Route description SR 133 begins at an intersection with SR 692 (College Road) at the hamlet of Hampden-Sydney. SR 133 heads northeast through a forested area, bypassing the campus of Hampden–Sydney College, while SR 692 passes directly through the campus of the men's college. SR 133 curves east and meets the eastern end of SR 692 on a tangent before reaching its eastern terminus at US 15 (Farmville Road) at the hamlet of Kingsville south of Farmville. Hampden Sydney is a census-designated place (CDP) in Prince Edward County, Virginia, United States. The population was 1,450 at the 2010 census. Hampden Sydney is the home of Hampden–Sydney College, a private all-male college that is the tenth-oldest institution of higher education in the United States. Geography Hampden Sydney is located at (37.244067, −78.476032). According to the United States Census Bureau, in 2000 the CDP had a total area of 4.5 square miles (11.6 km2), all of it land. According to the United States Census Bureau in 2010, it had a total area of 3.895 square miles (10.087 km2) with 3.878 square miles (10.044 km2) of land and 0.017 square miles (0.043 km2) of water. It sits on the intersection of VA 133 and US 15 Historical significance * Before the American Revolution, Kingsville was the site of "King's Tavern." * The British cavalryman, Banastre Tarleton, raiding, camped in Kingsville in 1781, in the same year sick and wounded French soldiers were brought to this Kingsville from Yorktown. Prince Edward County is located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 21,849. Its county seat is Farmville. History Formation and county seats Prince Edward County was formed in the Virginia Colony in 1754 from Amelia County. It was named for Prince Edward, second son of Frederick, Prince of Wales, and younger brother of George III of the United Kingdom. The original county seat housed the courthouse and was called Prince Edward Courthouse; it is now the village of Worsham. Near the headwaters of the Appomattox River, the Town of Farmville was formed in 1798, and was incorporated in 1912. The county seat was moved from Worsham to Farmville in 1871.
