Urbano Tavares Rodrigues
Urbano Tavares Rodrigues, GCIH (December 6, 1923 – August 9, 2013) was a Portuguese professor of literature, a literary critic and a fiction writer, winner of many literary prizes. Life Urbano Tavares Rodrigues was born in Lisbon on December 6, 1923, son of a family of large landowners of Moura, Alentejo. He attended primary school in Moura. After moving to Lisbon he joined the Camões Lyceum (''Liceu Camões''), where he was a fellow student of LuÃs Lindley Cintra and Antonio, brother of Vasco Gonçalves He graduated from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon, where he studied Romance Philology. He was a friend of Mário Soares from his youth, although they did not always agree over politics. Rodrigues was an activist in opposition to the authoritarian '' Estado Novo'' regime, which made it difficult for him to find work as a teacher. Albert Camus ( , ; ; 7 November 1913 – 4 January 1960) was a French philosopher, author, dramatist, and journalist. He was awarded the 1957 Nobel Prize in Literature at the age of 44, the second-youngest recipient in history. His works include '' The Stranger'', '' The Plague'', ''The Myth of Sisyphus'', '' The Fall'', and '' The Rebel''. Camus was born in French Algeria to '' Pieds Noirs'' parents. ''Público'' (; English: ''Public'') is a Portuguese daily national newspaper of record published in Lisbon, Portugal. History and profile ''Público'' was first published on 5 March 1990. The paper was founded by Sonae and is owned by the Sonae group. In 1992 Italian media company Repubblica International Holding SA, a subsidiary of Gruppo Editoriale L'Espresso, acquired 16.75% of the paper. ''Público'' is published in tabloid format and has its headquarters in Lisbon. The paper is known as a publication of the French school with extensive texts and few illustrations. Figueiredo Sobral
Figueiredo Sobral (1926 – 13 August 2010) was a Portuguese painter, sculptor and poet. His monumental sculptures and murals are displayed in public spaces in Portugal and Brazil. His work is held in many public and private collections. Life Jose Maria Figueiredo Sobral was born in Lisbon in 1926. He graduated from the Antonio Arroio Decorative Arts School ('' Escola Secundária ArtÃstica António Arroio'') where he studied under Lino António, Paula Campos and Rodrigues Alves. Sobral worked in a range of media including painting, graphic design, illustration, scenography and poetry. His paintings were first shown publicly at the General Exhibitions of Fine Arts (SNBA, Lisbon) immediately after World War II (1939–45). He joined the Portuguese surrealist group formed by Antônio Maria Lisboa and Cesariny Vasconcelos. His first individual exhibition was in Castelo de Vide in 1952. Manuel Teixeira Gomes
Manuel Teixeira Gomes, GCSE (; 27 May 1860 – 18 October 1941) was a Portuguese politician and writer. He served as the seventh president of Portugal between 5 October 1923 and 11 December 1925. Personal life Manuel Teixeira Gomes was born in Vila Nova de Portimão, son of José LÃbano Gomes (from Mortágua), and wife Maria da Glória Teixeira, born in Lagoa, Ferragudo. A wealthy landowner, his father was also an important dried fruit trader, a much travelled man, who had been educated in France and witnessed the 1848 revolution, had republican leanings and had been Belgian Consul in the Algarve. Teixeira Gomes attended the Colégio de São LuÃs Gonzaga, Portimão, and the Coimbra seminary.
