Uplands Ski Centre is a small ski area located in Thornhill, Ontario, just north of Toronto, Ontario and operated by the Uplands Golf Club. It has one ski lift—a quad chair starting in the 2012-2013 season. It has four runs averaging 300 m in length and has about 100 feet of vertical (1 blue, 1 black diamond and a 2 greens) Uplands is open from 9:00 a.m. (Friday-Sunday) or noon (Monday-Thursday) until 6:00 p.m. (Weekends) or 9:00 p.m. (Weekdays). The hill is part of the valley formation along the East Don River and one of two ski areas along the Don River (see North York Ski Centre). Vaughan () (2021 population 323,103) is a city in Ontario, Canada. It is located in the Regional Municipality of York, just north of Toronto. Vaughan was the fastest-growing municipality in Canada between 1996 and 2006 with its population increasing by 80.2% during this time period and having nearly doubled in population since 1991. A ski resort is a resort developed for skiing, snowboarding, and other winter sports. In Europe, most ski resorts are towns or villages in or adjacent to a ski area – a mountainous area with pistes (ski trails) and a ski lift system. Thornhill is a suburban district in the Regional Municipality of York in Ontario, Canada, split between the City of Vaughan (its western portion) and the City of Markham (its eastern portion), with Yonge Street forming the municipal boundary. East Don River
The Don River is a watercourse in southern Ontario that empties into Lake Ontario, at Toronto Harbour. Its mouth was just east of the street grid of the town of York, Upper Canada, the municipality that evolved into Toronto, Ontario. The Don is one of the major watercourses draining Toronto (along with the Humber, and Rouge Rivers) that have headwaters in the Oak Ridges Moraine. The Don is formed from two rivers, the East and West Branches, that meet about north of Lake Ontario while flowing southward into the lake. The area below the confluence is known as the "lower Don", and the areas above as the "upper Don". The Don is also joined at the confluence by a third major branch, Taylor-Massey Creek. North York Ski Centre
Earl Bales Park is a large park in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The West Don River runs through it. History The park was built on farm land owned by John Bales, which later became York Downs Golf and Country Club in 1922. The land was saved from development after the sale of the club which relocated in 1969 to Unionville, Ontario and was turned into an urban park in 1975. Don Valley Golf Course is located to the east and south of the park. John Bales House, which dates back to 1824, was used as the greenskeeper's home from 1922 to 1969. The park is named for former Reeve of North York Township (1934-1940) Robert Earl Bales (and great-grandson of John Bales). Centennial Park (Toronto)
Centennial Park is a large municipal park with many sports facilities, maintained by the Parks, Forestry and Recreation Division of the city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. History The park was opened in 1967 for Canada's 100th birthday by the then-Borough of Etobicoke and was part of the Hirons' dairy farm (the remaining part of the farm was sold for residential development in 1968). In 1976, the park was one of two venue sites for the 1976 Summer Paralympics. In 1998, when the six municipalities comprising Metropolitan Toronto were amalgamated, the park was integrated into Toronto Parks and Recreation from the former City of Etobicoke Parks Department. This should not be confused with an identically named small city park in the east end of Toronto, on Centennial Road, Scarborough, which was also inherited by the amalgamation. Beaver Valley Ski Club
Beaver Valley Ski Club is a private skiing and snowboarding club located in Beaver Valley, Ontario, Canada. It is situated on a steep sided section of the Niagara Escarpment adjacent to the Bruce Trail. It features some of the steepest runs and most diverse terrain in the region. The Club has 28 trails, five snowparks including a championship snowboard/ski cross course, national level mogul and slopestyle runs, glade skiing and a steep, groomed ski bowl. Its Playground snow park is one of the longest full featured snow park runs in Ontario. The Club has six lifts, two lodges and a ski and snowboard shop with rentals.
