University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is an NHS foundation trust which operates the Southampton General Hospital, the Princess Anne Hospital, Southampton Children’s Hospital, and the New Forest Birth Centre at Ashurst, Hampshire. It also provides a few services at the Royal South Hants Hospital and previously operated Countess Mountbatten House, a palliative care service at Moorgreen Hospital, which has since been renamed Mountbatten Hampshire. In 2016 the trust established a subsidiary company, UHS Estates Limited. The intention was to achieve VAT benefits, as well as pay bill savings, by recruiting new staff on less expensive non-NHS contracts. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is an executive non-departmental public body of the Department of Health and Social Care of the United Kingdom. Global Digital Exemplar
The Global Digital Exemplar (GDE) programme is an NHS England initiative to achieve digital transformation in selected exemplar organisations and to create a knowledge sharing ecosystem to spread learning from these exemplars. The programme is to enable "digitally advanced" NHS trusts to share knowledge with other NHS trusts, specifically knowledge gained during the implementation of IT systems, and especially experience from introducing electronic health record (EHR) systems. The GDE project is expected to last two to three and a half years; with the most digitally advanced trusts on the shorter time scale. Four rounds of exemplars have been announced so far — two waves of acute trust GDEs, and one wave each of ambulance trusts, and mental health trusts. Genomics England is a British company set up and owned by the United Kingdom Department of Health and Social Care to run the 100,000 Genomes Project. The project aimed in 2014 to sequence 100,000 genomes from NHS patients with a rare disease and their families, and patients with cancer. An infectious disease strand is being led by Public Health England. In summer 2019, Chris Wigley was appointed CEO of Genomics England, starting in October 2019. Moorgreen Hospital
Moorgreen Hospital was a community hospital in West End, near Southampton. It was managed by Southampton City Primary Care Trust. History The hospital has its origins in the South Stoneham Union Workhouse designed by Charles Henman and William Hinves and built at a cost of £7,000 in 1848. The workhouse was designed to house around 250 inmates, but had only 100 in 1841 and 225 in 1871. 8 acres of land surrounding the building were attached to the workhouse and cultivated by the inmates; other activities undertaken by the inmates included picking oakum, making shoes, and tailoring clothes. The workhouse became a Public Assistance Institution known as the West End Institution in 1930 and it converted into a health facility and became known as Moorgreen Hospital on joining the National Health Service in 1948. Royal South Hants Hospital
The Royal South Hants Hospital, known locally as "The RSH", is a community hospital in Southampton. It is managed by NHS Property Services. History The hospital was founded as a voluntary hospital in 1835 and moved into its first premises in St Mary Street as the Royal South Hampshire Infirmary in 1838. The foundation stone for new premises in Fanshawe Street was laid on 10 July 1843 and the hospital opened there in 1844. Joseph and William Bullar, doctors and brothers of children’s author Anne Bullar, funded additional wards for the hospital. These wards, named the Bullar Wards, were completed in 1851. Ashurst, Hampshire
Ashurst is a village in the New Forest district of Hampshire, England, which together with Colbury hamlet makes the parish of Ashurst and Colbury. Ashurst is on the A35 road near the Southampton conurbation. According to the 2001 census the parish had a population of 2,011, increasing to 2,093 at the 2011 Census. The parish is on the edge of the designated New Forest National Park area. The village has a campsite, some shops and a railway station. The parish is bounded to the west by Netley Marsh parish and the Bartley Water, to the north by the A326 road and Totton and Eling, and to the south by Denny Lodge parish in the New Forest. Ashurst is close to the City of Southampton and is often considered an exurb of it, a large percentage of its population being commuters.
