United States Congressional Delegations From Oregon
These are tables of congressional delegations from Oregon to the United States Senate and United States House of Representatives. The current Oregon delegation consists of 5 congressmen and 2 senators serving in the 117th United States Congress. The dean of the current delegation is Senator Ron Wyden, having served in the Senate since 1996 and in Congress since 1981. Oregon acquired a 6th congressional district following the 2020 census, which will add an additional congressman to the delegation starting in 2023 as part of the 118th United States Congress. Oregon's Congressional Districts
The U.S. state of Oregon has had six United States congressional districts since 2023, when the 6th district was created as a result of the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. The 5th district was added as a result of the 1980 United States Census, 1980 census, and boundaries were redrawn following the population changes to each district as determined by the 1990 United States Census, 1990, 2000 United States Census, 2000, 2010 United States census, 2010, and 2020 United States census, 2020 censuses. Edward Dickinson Baker
Edward Dickinson Baker (February 24, 1811October 21, 1861) was an American politician, lawyer, and US army officer. In his political career, Baker served in the U.S. House of Representatives from Illinois and later as a U.S. Senator from Oregon. He was also known as an orator and poet. A long-time close friend of the President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, Baker served as U.S. Army colonel during both the Mexican–American War and the American Civil War. Baker was killed in the Battle of Ball's Bluff while leading a Union Army regiment, becoming the only sitting U.S. senator ever to be killed in a military engagement. George Henry Williams
George Henry Williams (March 26, 1823April 4, 1910) was an American judge and politician. He served as chief justice of the Oregon Supreme Court, was the 32nd Attorney General of the United States, and was elected Oregon's U.S. senator, and served one term. Williams, as U.S. senator, authored and supported legislation that allowed the U.S. military to be deployed in Reconstruction of the southern states to allow for an orderly process of re-admittance into the United States. Williams was the first presidential Cabinet member to be appointed from the Pacific Coast. As attorney general under President Ulysses S. Grant, Williams continued the prosecutions that shut down the Ku Klux Klan. He had to contend with controversial election disputes in Reconstructed southern states.
