Unida (company)
Unida () is an American stoner rock band, originally formed in 1998 by John Garcia of Kyuss and Slo Burn. History Formation, Dozer split, and ''Coping with the Urban Coyote'' (1998–1999) Following the dissolution of Kyuss in 1995, former vocalist John Garcia became part of Slo Burn. Garcia already knew future Unida members Arthur Seay and Miguel (Mike) Cancino, considering them "exceptional" musicians and songwriters; therefore, after the end of Slo Burn in 1998, he reached out to them to start a band. Garcia later reflected that "I really wanted to jam with them and I knew that they could play and it was basically as simple as that." The band's original lineup consisted of Garcia (vocals), Seay (guitar), Cancino (drums) and Dave Dinsmore (bass). The band's name of Unida (), which is Spanish for "united" was chosen to reflect the band member's surroundings. Heavy metal (or simply metal) is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and United States. Los Natas or Natas are an Argentinian stoner rock band formed in 1994 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In their later releases, they had been leaning towards a more experimental sound described by them as ''free rock''. Musical style Their musical influences are numerous and varied, having the base of the raw and psychedelic sound of 1970s bands such as The Doors, Black Sabbath, The Who, Pink Floyd and Hawkwind, among others. Paul Gray (American Musician)
Paul Dedrick Gray (April 8, 1972 – May 24, 2010) was an American musician, also known as the Pig. He was the bassist, backing vocalist, main songwriter and one of the founding members of the heavy metal band Slipknot, in which he was designated #2. Early life and career Paul Dedrick Gray was born in Los Angeles, California. Later his family relocated to Des Moines, Iowa. He played guitar but switched to bass after he relocated to Iowa. In his youth, Gray performed in bands such as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, Anal Blast, Vexx, Body Pit, The Have Nots and Inveigh Catharsis. At the time of his death, he was one of three original members of Slipknot remaining in the band, and the only one who had maintained his original role in the band due to Clown's switch from main drums to percussion during the early days. Slipknot (band)
Slipknot is an American heavy metal band formed in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1995 by percussionist Shawn Crahan, drummer Joey Jordison and bassist Paul Gray. After several lineup changes in its early years, the band settled on nine members for more than a decade: Crahan, Jordison, Gray, Craig Jones, Mick Thomson, Corey Taylor, Sid Wilson, Chris Fehn, and Jim Root. Gray died on May 24, 2010, and was replaced during 2011–2014 by guitarist Donnie Steele. Jordison was dismissed from the band on December 12, 2013. Thomas Earl Petty (October 20, 1950October 2, 2017) was an American musician who was the lead vocalist and guitarist of the rock band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, formed in 1976. George Drakoulias
George Drakoulias (born 1965) is a Greek-American music producer and a former A&R executive at the American Recordings label. He is often considered a protégé of Rick Rubin. Drakoulias grew up in Syosset, New York, and attended Syosset High School, where he started his musical career with a band called Lifeline. He went to college at New York University (NYU), where he majored in music and business. There he befriended Rick Rubin, whom he met after he started dating an ex-girlfriend of Rubin's. He became one of the first hires for Rubin's Def Jam label. As an A&R man, he discovered L.L. Cool J and the Beastie Boys. After Rubin left Def Jam to move to Los Angeles and form the Def American label, which was later retitled American Recordings, Drakoulias moved with him and became a producer. ''Coping with the Urban Coyote'' is the first full release by American rock band Unida on Man's Ruin Records. Track listing Re-release with bonus live album Disc 1 follows the track listing of the original 1999 LP. On the CD, these tracks appear as tracks 7 through 14. The bonus live album was recorded at the Desertfest in London, England on April 27, 2013. Track 1 is from the ''Unida/Dozer'' double EP. Tracks 4 and 5 are from the unreleased second album of the band, intended for release in 2001 on American Recordings. The rest of the songs are from ''Coping with the Urban Coyote''.
