Ubbergen () is village and former municipality in the eastern Netherlands, in the province of Gelderland. The village is part of the municipality of Berg en Dal (formerly known as Groesbeek). Berg En Dal (municipality)
Berg en Dal (literally in English: ''Mountain and Valley'') is a municipality in the eastern Netherlands, in the province of Gelderland. It was formed through a merger of the municipalities of Groesbeek, Millingen aan de Rijn and Ubbergen in 2015. The resulting larger municipality maintained the name of Groesbeek until 2016, when it was renamed to Berg en Dal after the village of Berg en Dal. Berg en Dal has about 34,714 inhabitants and covers an area of about 93 km². The municipality borders in the north on the Waal river and the Bijlands Kanaal, in the east on the German forest of the Reichswald, in the south on the province of Limburg, in the southwest on the forest of the Mookerheide (also Limburg), and in the west on the city of Nijmegen. Beek, Berg En Dal
Beek is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is located in the municipality of Berg en Dal, about 5 km east of Nijmegen. It was sometimes referred to as "Beek (bij Nijmegen)" or "Beek-Ubbergen" because there are many villages called Beek. History It was first mentioned in 814-815 as Bechi, and means brook. The village dates from the early Middle Ages and was an agricultural community. In the 19th century, it developed into a villa ward. The tower of the Saint Bartholomew's Church has elements which are probably from the 11th century. The current layout dates from 1650. Between 1948 and 1950, it was extensively repaired due to war damage. In 1840, it was home to 715 people. Beek was a separate municipality until 1 January 1818, when municipality Beek fused with "Ooij en Persingen" forming municipality Ubbergen. Notre Dame Des Anges
Notre Dame des Anges, usually called the Notre Dame, is a secondary education school in the Netherlands. The school is located in Ubbergen (near the city of Nijmegen), in the province of Gelderland. It is the only secondary school in the Netherlands that only offers higher general continued education (Dutch: ''havo''). Notre Dame des Anges is named after the Chapel of Notre Dame des Anges near Lurs, in the French Alps; this chapel was supposed to be miraculous. History Notre Dame des Anges was founded in 1903 by French nuns. At the time it was a boarding school for Catholic girls. Nescio
Jan Hendrik Frederik Grönloh (born 22 June 1882 in Amsterdam; died 25 July 1961 in Hilversum), known by his pen name of Nescio (Latin for "I don't know"), was a Dutch writer. Grönloh was a businessman by profession, but as Nescio he is mainly remembered for the three novellas ''De uitvreter'' (The Freeloader), ''Titaantjes'' (Little Titans), and ''Dichtertje'' (Little Poet). His reputation as an important Dutch writer was only established after his death. Biography Nescio was born at Reguliersbreestraat 49 in Amsterdam, the eldest son of Jan Hendrik Frederik Grönloh, blacksmith and shopowner, with whom he shared his full name, and Martha Maria van der Reijden. Don Burgers
Donatus Clemens Bernard "Don" Burgers (26 February 1932 – 30 January 2006) was a Dutch politician for the KVP and later the CDA. Burgers was born in Ubbergen. After working for the police and later the government he was elected mayor of Haaren in 1972, and in 1979 became mayor of Rosmalen until 1989. In that year he became mayor of 's-Hertogenbosch, the capital of the Dutch province of North Brabant. In 1996 he retired. He remained active after his retirement as acting mayor of Middelburg (1996–1997; the capital of the province of Zeeland), Almelo (1997–1998) and again of Middelburg (2000–2001). He was also vice-chairman of the churchboard of the St. John's Cathedral and honorary consul to Romania. Burgers died at 73 years of age during a vacation in Innsbruck, due to a pulmonary embolism. Gelderland (), also known as Guelders () in English, is a province of the Netherlands, occupying the centre-east of the country. Groesbeek
Groesbeek () is a town and former municipality in the province of Gelderland, the Netherlands. In January 2015 the former municipality merged with Millingen aan de Rijn and Ubbergen. The larger area was known as Groesbeek until January 2016, when its name was changed to Berg en Dal. Description Groesbeek is named after a small stream called the Groesbeek (''beek'' being Dutch for "stream" or "brook"), which no longer exists in its original form.
