USS PC-1141
USS ''PC-1141'' was a built for the United States Navy during World War II. She was renamed USS ''Pierre'' (PC-1141) in 1956, was decommissioned from the U.S. Navy in October 1958, and transferred to the Indonesian Navy as KRI ''Tjakalang''. Career ''PC–1141'' was laid down by the Defoe Shipbuilding Company of Bay City, Michigan, on 12 March 1943, launched on 22 June 1943, and commissioned at New Orleans, Louisiana, on 23 December 1943, as USS ''PC-1141''. After fitting out at the Naval Station, ''PC-1141'' departed New Orleans on 6 January 1944 and arrived three days later at the Submarine Chaser Training Center, Miami, Florida. Defoe Shipbuilding Company
The Defoe Shipbuilding Company was a small ship builder established in 1905 in Bay City, Michigan, United States. It ceased to operate in 1976 after failing to renew its contracts with the United States Navy. The site of the former company is now being developed for business and housing on the bank of the Saginaw River. Founding Harry J. Defoe organized the Defoe Boat and Motor Works in 1905 on the Saginaw River in Bay City, Michigan. At that time, the firm built "knock-down" boats and gasoline powered boats for business and pleasure. In 1917, the company got its first Navy contract for five Spent Torpedo Chasers. The Eastern Sea Frontier (EASTSEAFRON) was a United States Navy operational command during World War II, that was responsible for the coastal waters from Canada to Jacksonville, Florida, extending out for a nominal distance of two hundred miles.
