USS Newport News (AK-3)
USS ''Newport News'' (AK-3) was a cargo liner that was launched in German Empire, Germany in 1903 as '. She was renamed ' in 1907 when she changed owners, and ''Newport News'' in 1917 when the United States seized her. She was renamed ''Arctic'' in 1925, and scrapped in 1937. She was the first of three US Navy ships to be named . She served in the United States Navy from 1918 until 1924. Her Naval service was Transatlantic crossing, transatlantic until 1919, when she was transferred to the Pacific Ocean, Pacific. As ' she belonged to the Hamburg America Line (HAPAG) from 1907 until 1917. She was the first of three HAPAG ships of this name.
