UAAP Season 86 Basketball Tournaments
The UAAP Season 86 basketball tournaments are the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) basketball tournaments for the 2023–24 school year. The University of the East are the hosts. The collegiate tournaments began on September 30, 2023, while the high school boys' tournament commenced on November 21, 2023. In the men's tournament, the UP Fighting Maroons finished the elimination round in first place. Defending champions Ateneo Blue Eagles finished tied for fourth with the Adamson Soaring Falcons, and eliminated the latter in a playoff. UP then defeated Ateneo in the semifinals. In the other semifinal match-up, #2 seed De La Salle Green Archers eliminated the NU Bulldogs. The Green Archers then defeated the UP in the finals, 2 games to one. In the women's tournament, the 7-time defending champions NU Lady Bulldogs finished first after the elimination round, and eliminated the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the semifinals. De La Salle Green Archers Basketball
The De La Salle Green Archers are the collegiate men's basketball team of De La Salle University, which play in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), the premiere sports league in the country. History La Salle was a pre-war founding member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in 1924. In September 1980, La Salle announced it would withdraw from competing in the NCAA after a violent game with the Letran Knights. In 1986, La Salle was accepted as a member of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). La Salle won five NCAA basketball titles – 1939, 1947, 1956, 1971, and 1974. The Green Archers won the coveted National Seniors Open Championship, a league participated by top commercial and college teams, twice in 1939 and 1949. The National University Bulldogs are the collegiate men's varsity teams of National University in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines. The collegiate women's varsity teams are called the ''Lady Bulldogs'' while the high school varsity teams are called the ''Bullpups''. Pocholo "Cholo" Iñigo Villanueva (born November 24, 1982) is a Filipino former professional basketball player and head coach for the Batangas City Embassy Chill of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) and the De La Salle Lady Archers of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). Villanueva also serves as the assistant coach for the Bay Area Dragons of the East Asia Super League (EASL). Thomas Anthony "Tab" Baldwin (born 16 May 1958) is an American-New Zealand basketball coach who currently serves as the head of the Gilas Pilipinas Youth national basketball program and head coach for the Ateneo Blue Eagles of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).
