The National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan ( Latinised- uz, Oʻzbekiston Milliy Olimpiya qoʻmitasi) is the National Olympic Committee representing Uzbekistan. It was founded in the year of 1992, although it was not recognised by the International Olympic Committee until 1 January 1993. The headquarters of the committee is in the capital city of Tashkent. Juris Razgulajevs, sometimes spelled ''Yuri Razguliaiev'', (born March 20, 1973) is a Canadian ice dancing coach and former competitor who represented the Soviet Union, Latvia, Uzbekistan, and Japan. He is the 1991 World Junior champion with partner Aliki Stergiadu for the Soviet Union. Personal life Razgulajevs was born on March 20, 1973, in Riga, Latvia. He moved to the United States in 1995 and then to Canada in 1999. His wife is named Irina. Their son, Dmitre Razgulajevs, was born on November 19, 1996, in Boston and competes in ice dancing for Canada. Their second son, Alexie, was born in 2000 and plays hockey. Aliki Stergiadu (born 5 October 1972) is a former competitive ice dancer. She is the 1991 World Junior champion with Juris Razgulajevs for the Soviet Union. Personal life Stergiadu was born on 5 October 1972 in Tashkent, Uzbek SSR, Soviet Union. She lived in Elektrostal, Russia until she took a coaching position in Skellefteå, Sweden in 2006. She married Lennart "Lelle" Erinder in September 2012 in Skellefteå. Career Stergiadu began skating at age five. Early in her career, she competed for the Soviet Union with Juris Razgulajevs. Coached by Natalia Linichuk in Moscow, they won the 1991 World Junior Championships in Budapest, Hungary. The 1994 Winter Olympics figure skating competition was held at the Hamar Olympic Amphitheatre. Qualifying As the host country, Norway automatically qualified spots to the 1994 Olympics. In 1992, however, the Norwegian Olympic Committee announced that skaters aspiring to be selected for Norway would have to finish in the top 12 at the European or World Championships. Since none met this requirement, Norway decided to have no competitors in figure skating at the Olympics. Although Leslie Monod / Cédric Monod's result at the 1993 World Championships allowed Switzerland to send two pairs to the Olympics, the Swiss Olympic Association elected not to send a pair after the Monods finished 11th at the 1994 European Championships. The freestyle skiing competition of the 1994 Winter Olympics was held at Kanthaugen Freestyle Arena. There were four events, taking place between 15 and 24 February 1994. The freestyle program was expanded at this Olympics, with aerials, previously a demonstration event, added as a full medal event. Lina Anatolyevna Cheryazova (russian: Лина Анатольевна Черязова, 1 November 1968 – 23 March 2019) was an Uzbek freestyle skier who competed in aerials. She won a bronze medal at the 1990 European Championship and a gold medal at the 1993 World Championships before winning the gold medal at the 1994 Winter Olympics with a score of 166.84. So far she is the only athlete to have won a Winter Olympic medal while representing Uzbekistan. Her achievements earned her the title of ''Honored Athlete'' of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Cheryazova initially trained in gymnastics and trampolining, and took up freestyle skiing in 1987. She debuted at the World Cup in December 1989, and became the overall winner in the 1992–93 (winning six out of eight races) and 1993–94 seasons (winning six out of 11 races).
