Utskarpen
Utskarpen is a village in the municipality of Rana in Nordland county, Norway, about west of the town of Mo i Rana. The village is located at the end of the Utskarpen fjord, an arm of the main Ranfjorden. On the western side of Utskarpen is the intersection with Norwegian County Road 17 and Norwegian County Road 12. The neighboring villages are Mæla to the north and Myklebustad to the west. Utskarpen has a kindergarten, a primary and secondary school, and a nursing home. The Utskarpen Museum was opened on 23 October 1999. The village has been in the three municipalities. Mæla is a village in the municipality of Rana in Nordland county, Norway. It is located along Norwegian County Road 17 at the eastern end of the Sjona fjord, about north of the villages of Utskarpen and Myklebustad. The district surrounding the inner part of the Sjona fjord originally belonged to the municipality of Nesna. Myklebustad or Myklebostad is a village in the municipality of Rana in Nordland county, Norway. It is located along Norwegian County Road 17 on the southern bank of the Sjona fjord, just west of the villages of Mæla and Utskarpen. Sjona Church is located in the western part of Myklebustad, serving the western part of Rana municipality. Rana is a municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is part of the Helgeland traditional region. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Mo i Rana, which houses the National Library of Norway. Sør-Rana is a former municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1929 until 1964 (Hemnes Municipality was also named ''Sør-Rana'' from 1838 until 1844). Sør-Rana encompassed an area on both sides of the middle section of the Ranfjorden around where the Sørfjorden and Elsfjorden branch off the main fjord. Norwegian County Road 17
County Road 17 ( no, Fylkesvei 17), also known as the Coastal Highway ( no, Kystriksveien), is a Norwegian highway that runs from the town of Bodø in Nordland county (in the north) to the town of Steinkjer in Trøndelag county (in the south). It is long and includes six ferry crossings. The road runs along the coast of Nordland and Trøndelag counties through 28 different municipalities. This road is a much more scenic, albeit longer and more time-consuming, route than the inland European Route E6 highway. Ranfjorden
The Ranfjorden (or just ''Ranfjord'') is a fjord in the Helgeland district of Nordland county, Norway. The largest part of the fjord is in the municipality of Rana, but the fjord also passes through the municipalities of Hemnes, Vefsn, Leirfjord, Nesna, and Dønna. The Ranelva river meets the Ranfjord in at the town of Mo i Rana at the innermost part of the fjord. It then flows to the west for about to where it meets the sea along the border of Dønna and Nesna municipalities. The inner part of the fjord is lush, forested, and more heavily populated. The western parts of the fjord are narrow with steep sides and that area has few inhabitants. There is a narrow strait that connects to the Sørfjorden and Elsfjorden at the village of Hemnesberget.
