Utladalen Landscape Protection Area ( no, Utladalen landskapsvernområde) is adjacent to Jotunheimen National Park, covering Utladalen, Norway's deepest valley. It is located about northeast of Øvre Årdal in the municipality of Årdal in Vestland county, Norway. The landscape protection area was established 1980 and covers about at an elevation of about above sea level. It includes both the Utladalen and Avdalen valleys as well as areas that extend both westward and northward to Jotunheimen National Park, and eastward to lake Tyin. Jotunheimen
Jotunheimen (; "the home of the Jötunn") is a mountainous area of roughly in southern Norway and is part of the long range known as the Scandinavian Mountains. The 29 highest mountains in Norway are all located in the Jotunheimen mountains, including the tall mountain Galdhøpiggen (the highest point in Norway). The Jotunheimen mountains straddle the border between Innlandet and Vestland counties (historically part of the old Oppland and Sogn og Fjordane counties). Tourism Jotunheimen is very popular with hikers and climbers, and the Norwegian Mountain Touring Association maintains a number of mountain lodges in the area, as well as marked trails that run between the lodges and others that run up to some of the peaks. Øvre Årdal
Øvre Årdal is a village in Årdal Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is the larger of the two primary villages in Årdal. The village is situated at the northern end of the long lake Årdalsvatnet, with the village of Årdalstangen at the southern end. The village has a population (2019) of 3,117 and a population density of . Farnes Church is located in this village. Jotunheimen National Park
Jotunheimen National Park ( no, Jotunheimen nasjonalpark, "Home of the Giants") is a national park in Norway, recognized as one of the country's premier hiking and fishing regions. The national park covers and is part of the larger area Jotunheimen. More than 250 peaks rise above an elevation of , including Northern Europe's two highest peaks: Galdhøpiggen at , and Glittertind at . Utladalen
Utladalen (or ''Utladal'') is a valley in Årdal Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It stretches north from the village of Øvre Årdal into the neighboring Luster Municipality. The Avdalen and Fardalen valleys branch off of the main Utladalen valley. Utladalen is Norway's deepest valley. The main valley, when measuring from Øvre Årdal is long and is surrounded by dozens of mountain peaks that are all more than in height. From Øvre Årdal, a comfortable walking road has been constructed, funded by voluntary contributions. Årdal is a municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located at the end of the Årdalsfjorden in the traditional district of Sogn. The village of Årdalstangen is the administrative center of the municipality. The other main village is Øvre Årdal. Vestland is a county in Norway established on 1 January 2020. The county is located in Western Norway and it is centred around the city of Bergen, Norway's second largest city. The administrative centre of the county is the city of Bergen, where the executive and political leadership is based, but the County Governor is based in Hermansverk. Avdalen is a small, long side valley located off of the main Utladalen valley in Årdal Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located within the Utladalen Landscape Protection Area, which was established along with the adjacent Jotunheim National Park in 1980 and covers about . A blues concert is held at Avdalen each year in June. It has become increasingly popular. The Årdal mountain touring club maintains a staffed lodge at the formeAvdal farm(). Tyin is a lake in Vang Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The lake is located in the southwest part of the Jotunheimen mountain range. The lake lies in Vang Municipality in Innlandet county, but a small portion of the lake extends into Ã…rdal Municipality in Vestland county. Vettisfossen
Vettisfossen is one of Norway's tallest waterfalls, and the 284th tallest in the world. It is located in the Jotunheimen mountain range inside the Utladalen Landscape Protection Area in Årdal Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The waterfall has a single drop of that is nearly vertical. The waterfall is about wide and has an average flow of . Vettisfossen is the tallest free-falling waterfall in Europe and in Norway which consists of only one drop, that is entirely free-falling, is not regulated and flows with a considerable volume. Falketind
Falketind is a mountain in Årdal Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the Jotunheimen mountain range inside the Utladalen Landscape Protection Area. The mountain is east of the old mountain farm, Vettismorki, and northwest of the lake Tyin. The 1820 ascent was the first known ascent on an alpine mountain in Norway. A climbing party which included Baltazar Mathias Keilhau and Christian Peder Bianco Boeck went via Snøggeken (Falkbreen) and the northern ridge. At that time the mountain was named ''Koldedalstinden'', but Aasmund Olavsson Vinje renamed the mountain ''Falketind'' more than fifty years later.
