Uskela
Uskela is a former municipality of Finland. It was merged into Salo in 1967. Many municipalities surrounding Uskela were split from it. In 1967 Uskela and part of Halikko were merged to the rapidly growing Salo which needed more area. It bordered Salo, Halikko, Kuusjoki, Pertteli, Muurla and Perniö. History Uskela is the oldest parish in eastern Finland Proper, having been established sometime in the 13th century. Halikko, Kiikala, Pertteli and Muurla were formerly parts of the parish. In the 16th century, Uskela was administratively a part of Halikko, but remained a separate parish. Salo was originally an important village within the parish, but became an ''epäitsenäinen kauppala'' (a market town that was not a separate administrative unit) in 1887 and a municipality in 1891. Uskelanjoki
Uskelanjoki is a river of Finland. It flows into the Archipelago Sea through the town of Salo. The course of the river follows a large, NE–SW oriented bedrock fracture line which begins from the river estuary in Halikonlahti bay and goes up through the lower reaches of the river and its tributary Terttilänjoki in north. Other tributaries of Uskelanjoki are Rekijoki and Hitolanjoki in north, Kurajoki in Pertteli and Vähäjoki near Salo. Landslides are common in the area, and for example in 1825 the church of Uskela that stood on the edge of the river was destroyed by a landslide that occurred on Christmas eve. Turku and Pori Province (, , ) was a province of independent Finland from 1917 to 1997. The province was however founded as a county in 1634 when today's Finland was an integrated part of Sweden. Between 1634 and 2009, Finland was administered as several provinces ( fi, Suomen läänit, sv, Finlands län). Finland had always been a unitary state: the provincial authorities were part of the central government's executive branch and apart from Åland, the provinces had little autonomy. There were never any elected provincial parliaments in continental Finland. The system was initially created in 1634. Its makeup was changed drastically on 1 September 1997, when the number of the provinces was reduced from twelve to six. This effectively made them purely administrative units, as linguistic and cultural boundaries no longer followed the borders of the provinces. Halikko () is a list of former municipalities of Finland, former municipality of Finland that existed until December 31, 2008. On January 1, 2009, the municipality was merged with the larger neighboring Salo, Finland, Salo. Before the merge Halikko had become a rapidly urbanizing rural area.
