Urubu River ( pt, Rio Urubu) is a river in Amazonas state in north-western Brazil. It is a tributary of the Amazon River, and it branches to the north (or to the left if facing downstream) near the town of Itacoatiara. It is a blackwater river. Course The source of the Urubu is to the north of Presidente Figueiredo, where it is protected by the Caverna do Maroaga Environmental Protection Area, established in 1990. It flows in a southwest direction, parallel to the Uatumã River. Amazonas (Brazilian State)
Amazonas () is a state of Brazil, located in the North Region in the northwestern corner of the country. Silves or Ilha de Silves is an island municipality in the state of Amazonas, northern Brazil. It is located 10 km straight line north or about 40 km by water from the Amazon River, east of Manaus (almost halfway between that city and the Amazonas-Pará state border). Amazon River

Itacoatiara, Amazonas
Itacoatiara is a municipality in the central eastern portion of state of Amazonas, inland northern Brazil. It is 176 km east by air or 270 km downstream by river from Manaus. Blackwater River
A blackwater river is a type of river with a slow-moving channel flowing through forested swamps or wetlands. As vegetation decays, tannins leach into the water, making a transparent, acidic water that is darkly stained, resembling black tea. Most major blackwater rivers are in the Amazon Basin and the Southern United States. The term is used in fluvial studies, geology, geography, ecology, and biology. Presidente Figueiredo is a municipality located in the Brazilian state of Amazonas. Its population was 37,193 (2020) and its area is 25,422 km2. The Uatumã River (sometimes spelled Uatamã) is a river flowing through the state of Amazonas in Brazil. It is a northern tributary of the Amazon River, and known for its extensive peacock bass population. It is a blackwater river. The river flows through the Uatuma-Trombetas moist forests ecoregion. During the wet season starting in December, water levels can rise some 25 to 40 feet. Water levels have been strongly affected by the building of the controversial Balbina Dam on the river in the mid to late 1980s to generate electricity. The hydroelectric dam generates an average of 112.2 MW of electricity from the river system and floods a total of 2360 km2 of rainforest around the Uatumã river.
