Uprising 2011, Indians Against Corruption
''Uprising 2011- Indians Against Corruption'', published in January 2013, is a pictorial diary/chronicle of the civil-society supported anti-corruption movement that took place in India between 2010 and 2012. The period compilation has been jointly brought together by Kiran Bedi and Pavan Choudary as a dedication to all the Indians who participated in anti-corruption uprising led by Anna Hazare. Summary Uprising 2011 is a compilation of selected news clippings, cartoons, interesting quotes and published articles of the anti-corruption movement that took place in India between 2010 – 2012, also referred to as India's Arab Spring or its second war of independence (against corruption). The book gives a thumb-nail view of the historical awakening of the Indian society, to take the readers through the struggle chronologically as it was being reported. Pavan Choudary
Pavan Choudary (born 29 August 1965) is an Indian writer, TV talk-show host, TEDx speaker, and CEO. He has written several books including ''How a Good Person can Really Win (Earlier version- When you are sinking become a submarine- Winning Through Wisdom and Creativity)'', ''Machiavelli for Moral People'', ''Broom and Groom'' (co-author Kiran Bedi) and ''The Rx Factor''. Choudary also hosts the TV show ''Hum Aisey Kyun Hain'' on Doordarshan and has written columns for The Times of India (Gurgaon), the Financial Chronicle and Firstpost. Anti-corruption (or anticorruption) comprises activities that oppose or inhibit corruption. Just as corruption takes many forms, anti-corruption efforts vary in scope and in strategy. Kiran Bedi
Kiran Bedi (born 9 June 1949) is an Indian social activist, former-tennis player who became the first woman in India to join the officer ranks of the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1972 and was the 24th Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry from 28 May 2016 to 16 February 2021. She remained in service for 35 years before taking voluntary retirement in 2007 as Director General, Bureau of Police Research and Development. As a teenager, Bedi was crowned the national junior tennis champion in 1966. Between 1965 and 1978, she won several titles at various national and state-level championships. Corruption In India
Corruption in India is an issue which affects economy of central, state and local government agencies in many ways. Corruption is blamed for stunting the economy of India. A study conducted by Transparency International in 2005 recorded that more than 62% of Indians had at some point or another paid a bribe to a public official to get a job done. In 2008, another report showed that about 50% of Indians had first hand experience of paying bribes or using contacts to get services performed by public offices. In 2021 their Corruption Perceptions Index ranked the country in 85th place out of 180, on a scale where the lowest-ranked countries are perceived to have the most honest public sector. Various factors contribute to corruption, including officials siphoning money from government social welfare schemes.
