Upper Clements, Nova Scotia
Upper Clements is a community in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located in Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Annapolis County. It is on Nova Scotia Trunk 1 on the eastern side of the Annapolis Basin. The town is the site of Upper Clements Park and Upper Clements Provincial Park. Built c.1810, Goat Island Baptist Church is the oldest Baptist church building in Nova Scotia. Its situation overlooks Goat Island. It is a provincially recognised heritage building. the congregation was looking to sell the building, with two heritage societies interested in looking after it. Annapolis County, Nova Scotia
Annapolis County is a county in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia located in the western part of the province located on the Bay of Fundy. The county seat is Annapolis Royal. History Established August 17, 1759, by Order in Council, Annapolis County took its name from the town of Annapolis Royal which had been named in honour of Anne, Queen of Great Britain. The town was the successor to the French settlement of Port Royal, the chief Acadian settlement in the area. The Acadians had been forcibly removed by British government officials in the 1755 Grand Dérangement. In 1817 the population of the county was 9,817, and that had grown to 14,661 by 1827. At that time, the county was divided into six townships: Annapolis, Granville, Wilmot, Clements, Digby and Clare. By 1833, a number of reasons had been advanced for making two counties out of Annapolis County. Nova Scotia Trunk 1
Trunk 1 is part of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia's system of Trunk Highways. It is located in the western part of the province and connects Bedford with Yarmouth via the Annapolis Valley. It was known for many years as "the Post Road". The route runs parallel to, and in some places has been replaced by, Highway 101. Trunk 1 often forms the main street in communities that Highway 101 bypasses. The highway is in length and hosts the Evangeline Trail scenic travelway for its entire length, as well as the Glooscap Trail scenic travelway for a section between Windsor and Wolfville. Just east of Windsor, between Garlands Crossing and Currys Corner, Trunk 1 and Trunk 14 are duplexed for about 2 km. Annapolis Basin
The Annapolis Basin is a sub-basin of the Bay of Fundy, located on the bay's southeastern shores, along the northwestern shore of Nova Scotia and at the western end of the Annapolis Valley. The basin takes its name from the Annapolis River, which drains into its eastern end at the town of Annapolis Royal. The basin measures approximately northeast-southwest and at its widest from northwest to southeast. It is a sheltered and mostly shallow water body, framed by the ridges of the North Mountain and South Mountain ranges of the Annapolis Valley; the basin is geologically a continuation of the valley floor. A break in the North Mountain range at the northwestern edge of the basin, called Digby Gut, provides an outlet to the Bay of Fundy. The Bay Ferries Limited ferry service operating across the Bay of Fundy between Digby and Saint John maintains a terminal on the western shore of the basin near the Digby Gut. Upper Clements Park
Upper Clements Parks was a seasonal theme park located in Upper Clements, Nova Scotia, Canada owned and operated by a non profit community group, The Upper Clements Parks Society. It was composed of two parks; Upper Clements Theme Park and Upper Clements Adventure Park. Upper Clements Parks was open daily from the beginning of June until the end of September. The park had a wooden coaster and a water coaster and over 40 rides and attractions. History Upper Clements Park was built by the province and opened in 1989 at a cost of $23 million. In 1993, in response to rumours that the park might be doomed to closure, a group of local businesses made a bid to run the park. However, a group of 16 businessmen from Hong Kong, under the name Amsdale Resources Management, were awarded a three-year lease instead.
