''Upasane'' ( kn, ಉಪಾಸನೆ; English: Worship) is a 1974 Kannada musical drama film, directed by Puttanna Kanagal. The film produced by Rashi brothers, is based on the novel of the same name, written by Devaki Murthy. The film mostly had women playing the lead roles, consisting of Aarathi, Leelavathi, M. N. Lakshmi Devi, G. V. Sharadha and Advani Lakshmi Devi. Dr. Govinda Mannur, K. S. Ashwath and Seetharam played the male supporting roles. Actor Seetharam was colloquially named as "Upasane" Seetharam for the rest of his career after the release of this film. The film dealt with the plight of Sharadha (Aarathi) who intends to pursue her career in classical music. The film went on to win multiple high-profile awards at the Karnataka State Film Awards for the year 1974-75 including Best Film, Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography. Shivaram
S. Shivaram (28 January 1938 – 4 December 2021), popularly known simply as Shivaram or Shivaramanna, was an Indian actor, producer and director whose Kannada cinema career has spanned six decades. He has played roles including lead hero performances, character roles, comedic roles, as well as supporting parts. He teamed up with his elder brother, S. Ramanathan and produced several films under the name Rashi Brothers apart from directing ''Hrudaya Sangama'' in 1972. They together produced movies directed by Puttanna Kanagal like ''Gejje Pooje'' and ''Upasane''. They also produced Dr. Rajkumar 's 175th movie ''Nanobba Kalla'' and the Tamil movie '' Dharma Durai'' starring Rajinikanth which was a remake of the 1989 Kannada movie ''Deva''. Shubraveshti Ramaswamiah Seetharama Sharma (1 December 1933 – 5 June 1985), known popularly as S. R. Puttanna Kanagal, was an Indian filmmaker known for his work in Kannada cinema. He is often considered one of Kannada cinema's most influential filmmakers. Background and personal life Puttanna Kanagal was born to Ramaswamaiah and Subbamma in Kanagal, Mysore, Kanagal, a village in the erstwhile Kingdom of Mysore into a poor family. As he hailed from a poor brahmin family, he had to endure hardships and struggled to get a decent job. He worked as a teacher, salesman and even as a cleaner. Aarathi
Aarathi (born 1954) is an Indian actress who mainly acted in Kannada cinema, Kannada films during the 1970s and 1980s. She has won the Filmfare Awards South, Filmfare awards South and the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actress four times each. After her retirement from films in the mid-1980s, she staged a comeback in 2005 as a director with ''Mithayi Mane'' which met with critical appreciation and also won her the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Children film, Karnataka State Film Award for Best Children's Film. Vijaya Narasimha
Vijaya Naarasimha (ಕನ್ನಡ:ವಿಜಯ ನಾರಸಿಂಹ)(16th January 1927 – 31 October 2001) was an Indian lyricist who worked in Kannada cinema. Career Vijaya Naarasimha's first Kannada film song was "Yee Dehadinda Dooranaade" (Oh soul, why did you depart this body) for the 1956 film ''Ohileshwara''. He was part of the magic trio of director S. R. Puttanna Kanagal and music director Vijaya Bhaskar, which came up with widely appreciated songs. He worked with every major singer and music director through the 60s, 70s and 80s and with every major actor, including a couple of Kannada films with Tamil superstar Rajnikanth.
