Aarathi
Aarathi (born 1954) is an Indian actress who mainly acted in Kannada cinema, Kannada films during the 1970s and 1980s. She has won the Filmfare Awards South, Filmfare awards South and the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actress four times each. After her retirement from films in the mid-1980s, she staged a comeback in 2005 as a director with ''Mithayi Mane'' which met with critical appreciation and also won her the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Children film, Karnataka State Film Award for Best Children's Film. She was also nominated as a Member of the Legislative Council of the Vidhana parishad, making her only the second actress after B. Jayamma to be so nominated. Puttanna Kanagal
Shubraveshti Ramaswamiah Seetharama Sharma (1 December 1933 – 5 June 1985), known popularly as S. R. Puttanna Kanagal, was an Indian filmmaker known for his work in Kannada cinema. He is often considered one of Kannada cinema's most influential filmmakers. Background and personal life Puttanna Kanagal was born to Ramaswamaiah and Subbamma in Kanagal, Mysore, Kanagal, a village in the erstwhile Kingdom of Mysore into a poor family. As he hailed from a poor brahmin family, he had to endure hardships and struggled to get a decent job. He worked as a teacher, salesman and even as a cleaner. His job as a publicity boy brought him closer to theatre and subsequently to cinema. His association with films began when he started working for B. R. ''Naagarahaavu'' () is a 1972 Indian Kannada-language film directed by Puttanna Kanagal, based on T. R. Subba Rao's three novels ''Nagarahavu'', ''Ondu Gandu Eradu Hennu'' and ''Sarpa Mathsara'', and starring Vishnuvardhan (actor), Vishnuvardhan, Aarathi , K. S. Ashwath and Shubha (actress), Shubha. ''Upasane'' ( kn, ಉಪಾಸನೆ; English: Worship) is a 1974 Kannada musical drama film, directed by Puttanna Kanagal. The film produced by Rashi brothers, is based on the novel of the same name, written by Devaki Murthy. The film mostly had women playing the lead roles, consisting of Aarathi, Leelavathi, M. N. Lakshmi Devi, G. V. Sharadha and Advani Lakshmi Devi. Dr. Govinda Mannur, K. S. Ashwath and Seetharam played the male supporting roles. Actor Seetharam was colloquially named as "Upasane" Seetharam for the rest of his career after the release of this film. ''Kasturi Nivasa'' () is a 1971 Indian Kannada-language drama film written and directed by the director duo Dorai–Bhagavan based on a story, ''Kasturi Nivasam'' written by G. Balasubramanium. It was produced by K. C. N. Gowda under the banner of Anupam Movies. The film stars Rajkumar as Ravi Varma, an extremely generous man, who succumbs to his intention of being generous no matter what happens. It also features Jayanthi, K. S. Ashwath and Aarathi in supporting roles. After Balasubramaniam wrote the story exclusively for Sivaji Ganesan, director K. Shankar and producer Noor was impressed.
