Up The Creek (comedy Club)
Up the Creek is a comedy club on Creek Road in Greenwich, London. The club was founded in 1991 by Malcolm Hardee, who was a regular master of ceremonies. In an upstairs bar at the club was a mural commissioned by Hardee as a parody of Leonardo da Vinci's ''The Last Supper'', with Hardee as Christ and other comedians including Jo Brand and Julian Clary as the Twelve Apostles, with Ben Elton as Judas Iscariot. The venue won the inaugural Chortle Award for Best Large Venue, in 2002. Comedians to have played Up the Creek include Phil Nicol, Andrew Maxwell, Sam Simmons, Tim Vine, Ricky Grover, Owen O'Neill and Boothby Graffoe. ''No Such Thing as the News'' is a British television comedy series on BBC Two, which is a spin-off to the podcast ''No Such Thing as a Fish'', produced and presented by the researchers behind the panel game '' QI'', also on BBC Two. In it each of the researchers – James Harkin, Andrew Hunter Murray, Anna Ptaszynski and Dan Schreiber – collectively known as "The QI Elves", present their favourite facts related to the previous week's news. Format In each episode the Elves present their favourite fact that week which is connected to that week's news, and discuss related news and facts about it. They also read out news stories sent to them by viewers, which as of the second series is in a segment called "Special Correspondence", and also highlight other stories they did not have time to examine in greater depth. Boothby Graffoe (comedian)
Boothby Graffoe (born James Martyn Rogers, 1962) is an English comedian, singer, songwriter and playwright. He is particularly known for his surreal sense of humour and work with Canadian band Barenaked Ladies. Early life Rogers was born in 1962 in Kingston upon Hull, Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. For the latter part of his schooling, he attended Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Horncastle. At the age of 18, he became a member of the Butlins Redcoats, redcoats at a Butlins on the south coast. He named his alter ego after an Boothby Graffoe, English village while driving back from a gig in the late 1980s. His family still live in the Tattershall area. Owen O'Neill
Owen O'Neill is a Northern Irish writer, actor, director, and comedian. Early life O'Neill was born, the third eldest of 16 children, in Cookstown, Northern Ireland. He has drawn on his upbringing in Cookstown for some of his more colourful characters in his standup and theatre work. Early comic influences included W. C. Fields, Laurel and Hardy, and particularly Richard Pryor: "It was also poignant and heartfelt and I realised then that stand-up could be an art-form". He briefly attended Queen’s University in Belfast studying English, but dropped out and worked various menial jobs in Italy, Amsterdam, and finally London at age 21. Career O'Neill cites his career as beginning in poetry. In 1981 he entered and won a poetry competition for BBC Radio 4 and his stand-up evolved out of his poetry readings. Tim Vine
Timothy Mark Vine (born 4 March 1967) is an English comedian, actor, writer, and presenter best known for his one-liners and his role on the sitcom ''Not Going Out'' (2006–2014). He has released a number of stand-up comedy specials and has written several joke books. From 2004 to 2014, Vine held the Guinness World Record for the most jokes told in an hour; each joke had to get a laugh from the audience to count towards the total, and he set the new record with 499 jokes. Sam Simmons (born 19 March 1976) is an Australian comedian and radio and TV presenter. Andrew Maxwell (born 3 December 1974) is an Irish comedian and narrator, known for narrating the MTV reality series ''Ex on the Beach''. Phil Nicol
Philip Nicol (born 1953, Caerphilly, Wales) is a Welsh painter. Nicol graduated from Cardiff College of Art. He has been a lecturer at the Cardiff School and at Limerick Art College, Éire. His paintings often portray twilight inner city landscapes. He was winner of the Gold Medal for Fine Art at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in 2001.
