Uno Tölpus
Uno Tölpus (14 August 1928 Kunda – 11 August 1964 Käsmu) was an Estonian architect. He was one of the most notable Estonian architects in 1950s. Kunda, Estonia
Kunda is a town in the Viru-Nigula Parish of Estonia, located on the coast of the Gulf of Finland. Kunda is most famous for its cement factory, port and archaeological heritage. History Evidence of some of the oldest prehistoric communities in Estonia, hunting and fishing communities that existed around 7th millennium BC, 6500 BC, were found near Kunda. This settlement gave the name to the Kunda culture. The first written record of Kunda dates back to 1241 - it was mentioned as a village. In 1443 it was mentioned as a manor. Käsmu
Käsmu (german: Kaspervik, ) is a village in Haljala Parish, Lääne-Viru County, in northern Estonia, (retrieved 28 July 2021) on the territory of Lahemaa National Park. It's located northwest of Võsu, on the Käsmu Peninsula in the Gulf of Finland, surrounded by the Eru Bay to the west and the Käsmu Bay to the east. Käsmu was first mentioned in 1453 as ''Kesemo'', a beach belonging to the Aaspere Manor. Later in 1524 it is affirmed that Käsmu exists as a village. Due to the location the food was mostly acquired from the sea. Main fishes included Baltic herring and flounder. In 1697 the first ship in Käsmu was built to the baron of Palmse Manor. On the 2nd half of the 19th century they started building large sailing ships in Käsmu. In 1891 a lighthouse was built. Estonian Encyclopaedia Publishers ( et, Eesti Entsüklopeediakirjastus) was an Estonian publisher which published reference literature (like encyclopedias, atlases) and popular science literature. As of 2009 publisher's main shareholders were Hardo Aasmäe (owned 25.6%), (owned 20.4%), and Ülo Kaevats (owned 12.0%). In 2011 the publisher went bankrupt. However, the bankruptcy proceedings got stuck because the owner of the publishing house's last office, Ülemiste City, confiscated the property in the company's office and sold it to cover the 9,000-euro rent debt. Bankruptcy administrator Tiina Mitt estimated its value at over 4.3 million euros. The location of sold documents, author contracts and books under editing is unknown. Established in 1918, Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech; et, Tallinna Tehnikaülikool) is the only technical university in Estonia. Peeter Tarvas
Peeter Tarvas (until 1940 Treumann; 6 January 1916, in Kuressaare – 23 March 1987, in Tallinn) was an Estonian architect and professor.Eesti kunsti ja arhitektuuri biograafiline leksikon (EKABL). Tallinn: Eesti Entsüklopeediakirjastus, 1996. Page 515 From 1935 until 1940, he studied at Brno University of Technology. From 1944 until 1957, he worked at the architectural bureau Eesti Projekt. In 1949, he was awarded the title of associate professor by a decision of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the USSR. During the period between 1945 and 1954, he taught at the Tallinn Polytechnical Institute, and from 1947 until in 1987, he was a professor at the Estonian SSR State Art Institute faculty (including from 1962 until 1964, the head of the department of architecture, and as vice-rector from 1961 until 1987). Tallinn University Academic Library ( et, Tallinna Ülikooli Akadeemiline Raamatukogu) is a research library in Estonia with many fields of knowledge, except construction and agriculture. It is located in Tallinn, the capital city of Estonia. The library was founded in April 1946 as the Central Library of the Estonian Academy of Sciences. The main building of the Tallinn University Academic Library was designed by architects Uno Tölpus and Paul Madalik and was built in 1963. Although the library is relatively young, the Library of St. Olaf's Church (founded in 1552) makes up the oldest part of the collections, including 56 incunables dating back to the 15th century and thousands of volumes published between the 16th and 19th centuries. Overall, the library's collection has over 2.6 million physical items. The number of readers is nearly 50,000. Over the years the library has gone through several administrative changes.
