Unley Park is a southern suburb of Adelaide in the City of Unley. Its postcode is 5061. It is located on the north side of Cross Road and east of the Belair railway line. Access via public transport is from the Unley Park railway station, Millswood railway station and the Unley Road " Go Zone". A feature of the district is leafy Victoria Avenue—Adelaide's wealthiest street, containing many large and luxurious houses built between the two World Wars. Politically, the suburb is very safe for the Liberal Party, and is located in the Division of Adelaide. Tudorbethan Architecture
Tudor Revival architecture, also known as mock Tudor in the UK, first manifested in domestic architecture in the United Kingdom in the latter half of the 19th century. Based on revival of aspects that were perceived as Tudor architecture, in reality it usually took the style of English vernacular architecture of the Middle Ages that had survived into the Tudor period. Millswood Railway Station
Millswood railway station is located on the Belair line in Adelaide. Situated in the Adelaide suburb of Millswood, it is from Adelaide station. History The station opened circa 1910. The platforms were constructed of earth-filled concrete each side of the dual tracks, which were both broad gauge until 1995. There were timber framed, iron clad open passenger shelters on each platform. The two outbound Unley Park and Hawthorn stations had similar shelters. A ticket office was provided on the Up (western) platform until being demolished in 1985, and the original shelters were removed in March 1988 and replaced with the bus stop type shelters seen at some stations on the TransAdelaide network. Millswood station closed on 28 April 1995, simultaneously with stations at Clapham and Hawthorn despite criticism from nearby residents, with the conversion of the Adelaide-Wolseley line to standard gauge under the One Nation programme. Heywood Park
Heywood Park is a urban park, public park in the suburb of Unley Park, South Australia, Unley Park in Adelaide, South Australia. It is home to the last remaining Grey Box gum trees (''Eucalyptus microcarpa'') on the Adelaide plains, some of which pre-date European settlement. The park takes its name from the place of birth of William Haslam, the property's last private owner; Heywood in Lancashire, England. The City of Unley council purchased the property and it was officially opened to the public on 10 December 1921. Today, the park is popular with families and children, in part due its "huge, magnificent, thick-trunked trees." As of 2014, a number of these have been marked for removal following concerns about falling branches and public safety. One Tree Hill, South Australia
One Tree Hill is a town on the outskirts of Adelaide, South Australia. It is located in the City of Playford. History The town takes its name from the 'One Tree Hill Inn' (licensed in 1851), for many years the meeting place of the District Council of Munno Para East. The inn's name, in turn, referred to a giant red gum tree which stood on the intersection of Black Top Road and Walters Road. The tree burnt down in 1890 and was cut down in 1934 and replaced with 5 trees which can still be seen today. Myrtle Bank, South Australia
Myrtle Bank is a suburb of Adelaide, South Australia in the City of Unley. The suburb is named after a property near the foothills built in 1842 by William Sanders (1801–1880), who arrived in South Australia in 1838. He named the premises 'Myrtle Bank', because his friend James Gall, James Gall of Trinity living in Edinburgh had a fine property of the same name. The property passed through the hands of Capt. William Elder, brother of Sir Thomas Elder, before being purchased in 1848 by William Ferguson (Australian pioneer), William Ferguson (1809–1892), who built on the original house and lived there with his family until he died.
