The North Dakota Fighting Hawks baseball team was a part of the athletic program at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota. History The team was a member of the NCAA Division I Western Athletic Conference. It played at Harold Kraft Memorial Field. The last head coach was Jeff Dodson. The public address announcer for the baseball team was Kris Holm. Announced April 12, 2016, as a part of expense reductions because of institution and statewide budget cuts, the University of North Dakota announced the baseball program would be discontinued at the end of their 2015–16 season. On May 3, 2023, Zach Muckenhirn, who played for UND from 2014 to 2016, made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut against the Detroit Tigers, becoming the first player in UND history to play in the major leagues. Harold Kraft Memorial Field is a baseball venue in Grand Forks, North Dakota, United States. It was home to the North Dakota Fighting Hawks baseball team of the NCAA Division I Western Athletic Conference. It is named for Harold Kraft, former coach of the North Dakota baseball program who revived the program in 1956 after it had been discontinued in 1921. Kraft coached the program from 1956 to 1981. The North Dakota Fighting Hawks (formerly known as the Fighting Sioux) are the athletic teams that represent the University of North Dakota (UND), located in the city of Grand Forks, North Dakota. Zachary E. Muckenhirn (born February 27, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher who is a free agent. He has previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Mets. Jeff Dodson is an American former college baseball coach. He served the head coach of the University of North Dakota baseball program from 2009 until it was discontinued after the 2016 season. Playing career Dodson played two seasons at Bevill State Community College, earning an associate degree in 1989. He then played at Livingston University—now known as the University of West Alabama—completing his bachelor's degree in 1993. Coaching career In 1995, Dodson returned to Bevill State as head coach, a position he held for two seasons. He compiled a record of 31–77. In 1997, he moved to Martin Methodist College as head coach.
