University of Barishal ( bn, বরিশাল বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, ; also known as Barishal University or simply BU) is a public university located in Barishal, a divisional city in southern Bangladesh. It is the only general public university in Barishal division and the country's 33rd public university. The university was established in 2011 and began academic activities at undergraduate level in six departments under four faculties on 24 January 2012. The university currently offers degrees at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The university houses twenty-four academic departments under six faculties, where eighteen departments are currently providing postgraduate degrees. Every year almost 1490 students are admitted to undergraduate programs in the university. Abdur Rahman Biswas
Abdur Rahman Biswas (1 September 1926 – 3 November 2017) was a Bangladeshi politician. He was the President of Bangladesh from 1991 to 1996. Biswas represented Pakistan at the United Nations General Assembly prior to the independence of Bangladesh. Early life and education Biswas was born in Shaistabad village, Barisal District. He was educated at the University of Dhaka, where he received BA with honours and an MA in history and a degree in law. His subsequent public service included chairing a local cooperative bank and sponsoring educational initiatives. He joined the legal profession in the 1950s. Md. Sadequl Arefin (also known as Arefin Matin) is a Bangladeshi academic. He is serving as Vice-Chancellor of Barisal University (BU). Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib ( bn, শেখ ফজিলাতুন্নেছা মুজিব; 8 August 1930 – 15 August 1975), also known by her daak naam Renu ( bn, রেনু), was the wife of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the first President of Bangladesh. Zillur Rahman
Mohammed Zillur Rahman (9 March 1929 – 20 March 2013) was the President of Bangladesh from 2009 to 2013. He was also a senior presidium member of the Awami League. He is the third president of Bangladesh, after Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Ziaur Rahman, to die in office, while being the first to die of natural causes. Nurul Islam Nahid ( bn, নুরুল ইসলাম নাহিদ; born 5 July 1945) is a Bangladeshi politician and author. He served a member of the Bangladeshi parliament from the Sylhet-6 constituency from 15 years, being elected in 1996, 2008, 2014, and 2018. He was also the country's Minister of Education from 2014 to 2018.
