United Nations Security Council Resolution 432
United Nations List of UN Security Council Resolutions, Security Council Resolution 432, adopted unanimously on July 27, 1978, after reaffirming previous resolutions on the topic including United Nations Security Council Resolution 385, 385 (1976), the Council urged for respect of Namibia's territorial integrity by South Africa and called for the full integration of Walvis Bay back into Namibia. The town had been Direct rule, directly administered by South Africa. United Nations Security Council Resolution 385
United Nations Security Council Resolution 385, adopted unanimously on January 30, 1976, recalled previous resolutions on the topic as well as an advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice that South Africa was under obligation to withdraw its presence from the Territory of Namibia. The Resolution reaffirmed the United Nations' legal responsibility over Namibia, expressed its concern over the continued illegal actions of South Africa and deplored the militarization of Namibia. The Council then demanded that South Africa put an end to its policy of bantustans and its attempts calculated to evade the demands of the United Nations. The rest of the resolution demands that South Africa promise to allow a UN-organized election to select a future government, release all political prisoners, leave Namibia and respect international law. Walvis Bay ( en, lit. Whale Bay; af, Walvisbaai; ger, Walfischbucht or Walfischbai) is a city in Namibia and the name of the bay on which it lies. It is the second largest city in Namibia and the largest coastal city in the country. The city covers a total area of of land. The bay is a safe haven for sea vessels because of its natural deepwater harbour, protected by the Pelican Point sand spit, being the only natural harbour of any size along the country's coast. Being rich in plankton and marine life, these waters also drew large numbers of southern right whales, attracting whalers and fishing vessels. A succession of colonists developed the location and resources of this strategic harbour settlement.
