United Nations Queensland Award
The United Nations Association of Australia (Queensland) Community Award is awarded annually by the United Nations Association of Australia in Queensland All residents of Queensland are eligible for nomination for the award, and more than one award may be presented in any year. The purpose of the award is to recognise individuals and/or groups for "selfless and often uncelebrated efforts and commitment in their day-to-day lives relating to issues of peace, human rights, social justice and equality — efforts that serve to better the society we live in".UNAAQ 2011. The United Nations Association of Australia (UNAA) is the official non-profit, non-government, membership-based, organisation in Australia working on behalf of the United Nations core body to promote its overall aims and ideals, and equally seeking to build support for the UN's programs, activities, and agencies. The UNAA official mission is "to inform, inspire and engage all Australians regarding the work, goals and values of the UN to create a safer, fairer and more sustainable world". It has division offices in every State and Territory of Australia, with the national office run out of Canberra. Peace is a concept of societal friendship and harmony in the absence of hostility and violence. In a social sense, peace is commonly used to mean a lack of conflict (such as war) and freedom from fear of violence between individuals or groups.
