United Democrats (Georgia)
The United Democrats ( el, Ενωμένοι Δημοκράτες (ΕΔΗ), ''Enomenoi Dimokrates'' (EDI)) is a Liberalism, liberal list of political parties in Cyprus, political party in Cyprus. The party was founded by former President of Cyprus George Vasiliou in 1993 as ''Kinima Eleftheron Dimokraton'' ("Movement of Free Democrats"). The party later merged with ADISOK (a group of former AKEL members, including Andreas Fantis, Andreas Ziartides and Pavlos Diglis) to form United Democrats. The party is a full member of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party, Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe and an observer member of the Liberal International. History At the legislative elections in Cyprus, elections, 27 May 2001, the party won 2.6% of the popular vote and 1 out of 56 seats. Cypriot nationalism, also known as Cypriotism, refers to one of the nationalisms of Cyprus. It focuses on the shared identity of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots regarding their "Cypriotness", highlighting their common Cypriot culture, heritage, traditions, and economic, political, and social rights. Michalis Papapetrou is a Cypriot politician and diplomat. He was born in Nicosia, Cyprus on April 11, 1947. He graduated from the Kykko Pancyprian Gymnasium and after his studies in Law, in the University of Athens and the University College London, he is a practicing lawyer since 1972. In the past he held the posts of chairman of the Union of Cypriot Students in London, member of the Council of the Federation of Students Unions (OEFEK), Secretary General of OMONIA F.C., member of the Cyprus Bar Council and chairman of EDON. In 1985 he was elected as member of the House of Representatives with AKEL.
